Citrus Greening Discovered In Garden Grove Calif.

HLB (citrus Greening)discovered in La Habra, Anaheim and Garden grove California   All put in quarantine.  I think the HLB finds in California will be showing up faster and faster.

That really sucks, I just planted a bunch of Citrus trees in my new home in Fullerton, should i just plant some mango trees or suriname cherry instead?

I think it could be the Vietnamese or Latin American immigrants. They live in that area and, God bless them, plant a lot of fruit trees on their property. Sometimes they bring back citrus from their home countries. (Which isn't necessarily all a bad thing, I'd like to see more Asian citrus varieties be grown here, maybe they will eventually become available in nurseries)

To be frank, i'd love to see asian citrus varieties. They are delicious, especially this pomelo from Fujian, I tried it from some grower in SD I know that brought it back from China, It was super sweet despite being grown on the coast, not to mention nearly as large as a basketball. I wonder how HLB is controlled in China, its country of origin. Perhaps the psyllids natural predator resides along with it, keeping balances and checks, while here in America, we lack said predator, making the psyllids unstoppable. Maybe we won't have GMO citrus after all

HLB is not being controlled in China, or anywhere else as far as I know.  It is illegal to bring plants into this country.  That is how HLB got started in Florida.

Aye, I know that, I was just saying that there might be a natural predator in China, because HLB is native to China, discovered in the early 20th century, that begs the question how they are able to still grow citrus in mass production. Perhaps a natural predator is killing off a lot of the population of the Psyllid

I learned from somewhere, this forum or a citrus expo, that in China they just replace their infected trees with new ones. There is no control. When gets too sick to produce, replant with new one.

It would be ironic if one day we only have "cold hardy citrus " left in states that were not citrus producers before.  If we can't keep the psillids away from the citrus, we might have to take the citrus away from the psillids.

I believe Garden Grove has NOT had a diagnosed case of HLB.  It is only under quarantine for being within five miles of Anaheim, which had a positive HLB diagnosis in an ACP.
Nevertheless, I agree that we will see more, unfortunately.

More Asian Citrus Psyllid found in California.  During a routine sweep on July 6, agriculture officials in Placer County found one of the bugs linked to the mass depletion of citrus plants in Florida. The Asian Citrus Psyllid was found in a residential back yard in West Roseville.

I'm in SFL with 3 relatively young Citrus trees planed within last 12 months. Is there anything one can do to prevent Greening?

There is netting that you can cover trees with to try to keep psillids off trees. Learned about it on this forum. If your tree gets greening, there is a procedure where you place a plastic tent over the tree and bake the tar out of the bacterial infection; however, when another infected psillid bites your tree again, your tree is infected again. Greening is bad.
