What should I do with these seedlings
« on: July 16, 2017, 12:26:36 AM »
Hello, recently I planed a bunch of seedlings, and I was wondering if I should keep them in the garage or put them outside to grow. I would love some advice. Thanks, Matt

If you put them outside in summer they will get scorched, unless you use shadecloth. Once seedlings get sunburned it is very hard for them to recooperate, and even if they do recooperate you stunt the plants. It's kind of like putting a little baby in the hot sun.

I keep mine under a large magnolia in the middle of my brick back patio year round. No problems. In filtered sun they grow like weeds. Full sun is a different story. Chris

Yes look very healthy.
Keep in mind that most tropical trees sprout under mother trees in canopy of forest. So they need filtered light when very young. Garage is probably too dark, they need photosynthesis, but ultra hot sun will burn them. So yes, you need something in between those 2 extremes.

Not sure under a passion fruit vine is the answer.  Dont really see the protection there.

My passion Fruit Vine is really large, and is shaded, with only dappled sunlight coming through. Transpiration also helps me keep in the humidity. Wondering if these conditions would make it suitable for my precious durian seedling and Mango grafting.

Rob might be right. Might be good to invest on a piece of shade cloth. Sun position changes through the months and it just takes a few hours during a heat wave to scorch your seedlings.

I understand, I will put my burlap shade cloth over the trellis that it is on

Thanks, Matt
