Mountain Apple or Malay Apple growing in California?
« on: October 18, 2017, 02:16:32 AM »
Is there anyone in California growing this Mountain Apple or Malay Apple in pot?

2 years ago I grew one in 18 gallons pot in Hayward, California zone 9b. It's doing very well in the summer with full sun but in the winter I was so busy so I didn't protect it and it's gone.

One thing I know for sure that we can grow in the zone 9b with winter protection.

I have a question, will it fruit in the pot?

Can anyone out there give me a hope? Thanks

I have one in 30 gallons for almost 3 years . It is now 7-9 feet from the pot with big trunk size,  very green and never flower. I don't know what month of the year it blooms. Please tell me if anyone has one flower in south Cali or in sd

I asked the same question awhile back. The consensus is no. I am thinking to plant the Javan plum instead, but that is a nasty plant. What I meant is it is too bushy.

You can try to graft it to Syzygium jambos (Rose Apple). They seem to have a bit of cold hardiness. I am hoping to try soon.
