I would say it depends on the initial root system. I had some push new leaves and I had some wither away.
I have one that reemerged with 2 trunks. I error on the safe side and keep them too long.

When an Annonaceae seedling (Sugar Apple, Illama) germinates there are usually two leaves. If for some reason the leaves get fried before developing, does the stick die off or grow new leaves?
They grow again, I had some Nadai sugar apple mail to me, and I received them all broken with only the tiny young shoot, after I planted them about a month later there was a young new leaves,
El verde es vida!
