I am a bit lost in this garcinia taxonomy
some says:

1. Rheedia brasiliensis aka  Rheedia laterifolia aka Garcinia laterifolia
local name: Bakupari, Camboriu

2. Rheedia laterifolia aka Garcinia humilis aka Garcinia laterifolia
local name: Achachairu

Is it all the same plant?

I only know that years ago there was separate Rheedia - means garcinias of South America and they are now back under garcinia, But is Garcinia brasiliensis, Garcinia laterifolia and Garcinia humilis the same plant?

Rad the species have been discussed in numerous threads before and Oscar has frequently pointed out the taxonomy. The answer is no by the way. Rheedia has an identity crisis. G.brasiliensis is none of those and neither is achachairu which is undescribed. G.brasiliensis is more like a small fruited G.gardneriana.

Isn't G.brasiliensis similar to G.intermedia ?.

I do not want to mess this thread to much with my question, but fruits on Viveroanones page http://www.viveroanones.com/VAWEBSITE/Rheedia%20laterifolia%20-%20bacuripari%20July%2007%20003.jpg
looks identical to pictures of achachairu liso from Bolivia.

all pointed are different species.

Rheedia is the old name for the american garcinias, not valid anymore.

This one is very easy to grow, see thousands of seedling below the tree:

Delicious refreshing sweet-sour flavor (normally G. brasiliensis is sour to very very sour).

Cheers

Very high germination rate as well, I ate over 60 fruit in one sitting(made an achacha like drink with the skin), made some jam out of it (very good), and I planted all the seeds, and all of them came out except one that I bit slightly when I ate the fruit and planted for the heck of it. And on top of it, I still had several more fruit left on the tree, and flowers following just a couple weeks later. Mine was a sweeter variety and I agree it is a good tree to have. My original tree died, but I still have a few seedlings left.

I dont know if I bought a mislabelled plant, but the leaves of my intermedia is distinctly different from the leaves of my brasiliensis, the intermedia is much larger and more rounded than my brasiliensis.

The seeds from Vivero Anones were of the type that is semi-sweet with a thicker rind.  The fruit in the first picture looks more like Lemondrop or intermedia? How thick is the skin of that fruit? The intermedia is known as Mameyito in Puerto Rico (or at least at Jardines Enieda).

My just starting to sprout, thank again Carlos for getting them sweet to me so fast.

I get seeds from you faster than seeds from Oscar, I guess they now consider Hawaii a foreign country of biological threat to florida! ;D

I have read a lot about this species on google. Some are very acidic and some are sweet and sour.Seems like a lot of variation in this species.I also read that plants that are exposed to full sun produces more sweet fruits.I wonder if there are very sweet varieties of this species exist or waiting to be discovered.
