Suebelle White Sapote
« on: May 26, 2013, 05:44:21 PM »
Does anyone know if this variety fruits throughout the year in Florida?  The Charles Boning book says it does, but I seem to remember others (Rob?) saying that White Sapotes in Florida in general fruit from mid May to mid July or thereabouts.

Thanks,
Brad

I know of a few suebell trees near me in central FL...they seem to have fruits almost 3/4 of the year.  Although the fruits aren't too large, it's one of the best varieties I've had.

this year I'm eating more white saps than ever!  I recently had one from an unidentified grafted tree that taste like spearmint...with no bitter aftertaste.

Adam,

Do you have access to suebelle budwood?  I would like to add it to my Bonita springs white sapote.

Suebell does fruit a little earlier than some others.  I have currently seen some mature fruit on suebelle trees.  I have also seen a bonita springs with smaller but mature fruit on it.  Some varieties mature later in the summer.  These comments are based on South Florida trees.  Dont k ow how that compares to ogher areas of Florida or California.

Thanks for everyone's input.  Interested to hear how Suebelle fruits 3/4 of the year in central FL, but apparently has a more typical length of fruiting season in south FL.
