Cherilata (cherimoya x reticulata) as an ideal rootstock?
« on: March 01, 2021, 08:08:25 PM »
Any thoughts on cherilata (Annona cherimola x  Annona reticulata) seedlings as an ideal rootstock? Perhaps there is a synergy between the cold hardiness of cherimoya and the vigor of reticulata? The seeds of cherilata germinate readily and become seedlings pretty quick. Certainly worth evaluating. Just finished eating a cherilata - raspberry delicious- not too many seeds, firm, and unlike sugar apple, the late crop is just as good as the early crop.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially for Florida were reticulata grows well.
The only concern I would have for root stock is due to its hybrid nature. You might get inconsistent result depending on the seedlings.

If I had a fruiting specimen I'd plant out a few and see how variable they are.
