Where to buy canistel tree
« on: January 26, 2016, 11:39:03 AM »
A friend wants a Fairchild #2 canistel tree. She lives in North Broward (Fla.). I looked at Excalibur and they have none. She wants to stay with nurseries in the So.Fla tri-county area so she can see it and pick it up.

Any ideas?

  Thanks.

Regards,

Yeah their site does not have trees listed by cultivar. I'll try to call them when I get a chance

I really do need to update Excalibur's website. Regardless, people should always call because everyone knows that most nursery websites do not reflect an exact day to day inventory and new things are always coming in.

I seem to remember calling about a tree at a nursery, being told it was in stock, driving 100 miles and was directed to Black Sapote, (going home with a  So. Fla Persimmon) and then rather severely lambasted on a forum for asking for Chocolate Persimmon on the phone, silly me, weekend gardener... not asking for the genus. My fault entirely.

Now I wonder if there could be some way of making a mistake asking about a Fairchild #2 canistel? :-)

Anyway, I'll tell her that Excalibur has them, any idea what pot sizes are in?

I bought a Fairchild #2 from Benders in Davie last spring. Its planted and doing well. The Fairchild#2 fruits are smaller size which is a plus in my book because canistels can be so rich it is hard to eat a large one in one sitting, so you end up having to refrigerate what you could not eat.

Phone up Bender. If he doesn't have one he is very good on letting you know if he can get one in a reasonable time frame. Its still winter so no rush to buy it or plant it

Thanks all for the replies, I passed the info for Bender and Excalibur onto her. She's going to follow up. But she really  wants something larger than a 3 gallon, please all of you keep an eye out for me for a larger one?
