Title: Question about my dragonfruit
Post by: Johnny Redland on April 21, 2020, 08:48:07 PM: Can I throw a pot of soil around the base of this or will it cause the vine to rot?? I ask because I’m concerned that one whack of the weed eater and it’s all she wrote. I could put a barrier but thought a pot of soup might force it to spring more roots and suck up additional nutrients. How should I play this?

Post by: pineislander on April 22, 2020, 08:07:00 AM: Just be sure it is bean or peas soup for more nitrogen. If you pull the weeds there won't be much danger from the weed whacker.

You got me....soil. I corrected it. If I were going to continue to do the yard maintenance myself, that would be a different story. Alas, it is not the case.

Post by: Jaboticaba45 on April 22, 2020, 10:51:44 AM: I had the same issue with my temperate fruit trees. Now I make a barrier with metal wire mesh. Works like a charm and the lawn guys cant kill my trees now.

Post by: pineislander on April 22, 2020, 05:09:11 PM: I add compost to the base of my dragonfruit every season. The root zone goes out 3 feet or so so no need to bury the stem and they seem to love it.
