Alright, so I grow 3 different varieties of dragon fruit: Natural Mystic, American Beauty, and Yellow Dragon. Of all three variety, I'm having rust/fungus problem with Yellow dragon the most. I spray copper fungicide and it doesn't seem to help much. Do I have something more serious?

American Beauty:

Natural Mystic

Why are there 2 different flowers on the same vine?

Yellow Dragon put into pot same time as the other variety, but it's growing very slow.

I'm loosing the battle:

What should I do? Cut off the soft/black spot?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

One is alive and on it's way to blooming, the other is dying and preparing to fall off (the yellow one on the right).

Damage doesnt get repaired, just it prevents from spreading, yellow flower looking like it will die off
i am in West palm beach area, so i learned that different environments need different requirements. but good luck with that.

Thanks everyone. These are the only 2 flowers I have, so look like there is no chance of pollination since they other flower is dying.

As for the Yellow Dragon, I just keep harvest cutting and plan them, hopefully out of many of them, a few will survive and make it to fruit. Just wish the Yellow Dragon is as easy as the other two.

Have a look around your neighbourhood for other dragonfruit that are about to flower and collect some pollen from them. Chances are the two flowers on your plant wouldn’t pollinate each other any way if they were both alive.  Good luck.

try to hand pollinate the one to itself, or save pollen in freezer for next one, might want a couple. i now have over 40 kinds so mother nature will do 90% of the work without me. I heard that many times at the Rare fruit counsel that they didnt know why they had flowers but no fruit

I thought the outside of the flower was male, the inside female, at least on the American Beauty.  I rarely have a flower not get pollinated.  I do have immature yellow and white DF, I just planted them a couple of weeks ago, so I don't have experience with the yellow or white yet.

no problems with my yellow, bought here in Thailand as 'Israel Yellow.'  I left them out in little pots completely starved of water with sand underneath, they love that and have climbed out and attached their roots to everything nearby.  That sort of yellowing I have seen when the plants roots are too wet.  Add more sand to your potting soil, or since they are already potted drive a pipe from the top to the bottom, and add sand in that hole, or dig trenches around the bottom of the pots or even a large borehole to let the excess water run off quickly.

mine get like that in the winter does not like wet feet when cold  a lot more sensitive that regular dragon fruit

i just push the dead gooey part  of with my finger on a dry sunny day  let it seal up

mine are just starting to grow again where as the regular dragon fruit grew though the winter

seems to need alot better drainage that the others

Hi all,

Thanks for the tips, I will see what I can do to increase the drainage of the Yellow DF. Unfortunately we're entering the wet season now in Florida. This week along my area is getting 3-5" of rainfall. As soon as the weather dry up a bit, I'm going to go out and scrap the bruised/soft flesh of the yellow DF vine and hopefully it will seal up and continue to grow.

As for the single flower, I'm going to try this:

How long can you freeze pollen? I don't think the other DF will flower this year. These plants are only about 1 year old.

Thanks!

Maybe the burlap wrap is holding more moisture than needed?

I actually have the dragon fruit in full sun area. The fence is East, so I basically set late morning to evening sun. I don't think yours is Yellow Dragon fruit. Yellow dragon grow super slow.

Ah..... I never thought about that. I may build another tower and get rid of the burlap and see. So far I just have to work with what I have.
