Vitamin b1 on first year trees?
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:47:59 PM »
Planted my yard about 2 months ago and was going to start using some b1 to kick start root development before the growing season. Good idea?

My opinion: Save your money and let mother nature takes its course.

I agree with the article. Nitrogen. Urea in water a light ..25% solution works real well and is the cheapest form of nitrogen you can buy.

We (I) have been brainwashed to believe that P induces new root output.  Not true.  Too many of the plant food/supplement vendors are selling what they think the public wants per the long term paradigms based on feelings rather than what the plant needs based on fact.  Most if not all "Root Stimulators" have a very high P amount, something like a 8-50-9 with an auxin type hormone and Vitamin B1.

Years ago during a lecture on planting Christmas tree seedlings I asked a forestry expert what he thought of stuff like Superthrive or what I like to call "superjive".  Said it was about as worthless as the hype on the label.

i've always had good results with 5-10-15.  this is a common fertilizer available at feed stores wherever soybeans are raised.  lighter doses more often works well for me.  also trace elements, compost and mulch.
