Rattus rattus has a more confined palate than many other rats. Annonas are refused by them.My local Uromys dine on a much wider variety including harder seeds. Not many species of plant seeds are refused.I bet some of the native rats in everyones' area.I have seed macadamias eaten by rats that eat through the nutshell.

Of course those I'ole love durian seed especially the stinky relatives.  Durio graveolens didn't last long in the nursery.
With rare seed nowadays I flip another planting tray on top of the planted seed tray and weight it down with something heavy like a few rocks.

Aloha Lance
The graveolens from you made it..because I learned from an earlier rat attack to protect em.
A little while ago friend sent me some thick fleshed tasty graveolens seed..sadly they all got swiped.
Live and learn!
