Please let us know if the difference between the DVD version and the free YouTube version make it worthwhile to buy the DVD.

I guess I'd have to go back and see the Canadian versions to see exactly where they differ, but the obvious difference was that it has a lot more scenes with Bill Pullman and his efforts to establish a community orchard. He's a really likable guy and he makes the movie a whole lot better.

I liked this version a little bit more than the CBC version even though this version had 30 seconds less of me. ;D

The reason there are two versions is that the film was funded by the Canadian government and they required the more educational version as well.

This version is much different and definitely worth buying a copy.

The Canadian TV program version has very little of Bill Pullman in it and no mention of his orchard in Hollywood, California.

Just noticed that the movie is 96 minutes long. The 2 clips on youtube were a total of 90 minutes, and of those 90 probably 10 minutes were introductions by narrator, so the movie is about 16 minutes longer than the Canadian TV show.

I just saw the Movie, and really liked it. It has most of what is available on the free documentary version, but what I loved about the DVD was watching Bill Pullman and his adventures setting up his own community orchard, and visiting with other fruit growers. He's adorable, funny and such a likable guy. You can tell he's really passionate about his fruit trees.

I loved his home Orchard. It's on steep hill sides, and it's amazing to see how much hard work has gone into setting up some really beautiful fruit trees.
Really inspiring to see!!

We just got the DVD, and I think it's better than the youtube version overall.

It cuts back and forth among the various story lines, which makes it more enjoyable.  The parts about the berries in canada (can't remember the specifics) and the Zaigers are not in the DVD.

To be frank, I was longing for more in the film - I felt kind of unfulfilled at the end.  There's not much of a happy ending.  I was also hoping for more swashbuckling and more "Eureka!" moments of discovering unique fruits, etc.

But still a fun flick!

I bought this on Amazon Prime last night. It was pretty awesome! And I was laughing at the intro where the guys were saying, "Before long it became an obsession, and uh, I was no longer a normal person" and, "it blossomed into a full time case of insanity." -- I definitely found my hook fruits overseas.  ;D

murahilin, I was trying to figure out who you were. :)

I'm in the beginning for about 4 seconds in a blue polo shirt. Those 4 seconds were definitely worth it, cause I made it to the credits.  ;D

Rule of thumb is, if you say over 3 words on camera, you are supposed to get your name credit (and if it was a SAG production, a taft hartley and a paycheck!).  8)

So is this you, then? It's nice to "meet" ya. :)

Yup that was me. I had to remove the pic of myself though.

Since this was a Canadian doc, it wasnt a SAG production. I think I'm on the Canadian film board website listed as "participant" in the documentary.

Oh cool. From that short longan video, I could tell you knew what you were doing. I think people from FL and CA should mail you free fruit just to get more videos made if you're for it.

I think its cherimoya season now, so some CA members should do everyone a favor and mail you some good cherimoyas.

I just saw it on Netflix last night. It's longer than the online version. I really liked the idea of walking your local area and documenting fruit trees in the neighborhood. I have people walk up all the time while I'm outside and ask about my fruit trees. I usually give them a tour and a seedling of something. I may try it this year as there are a ton of mango trees in the area and plenty of lychees I would like to try..

This DVD is inspiring, in a way that lets you see a greater purpose for fruit collecting. Now I feel like I want to open a botanical garden something that can bring that unique experience to everyone and at the same time changing the norm and preserving rare fruits that may be greatly depleted as countries tend to diversify and replace fruits with more commercial single type crops. I think I'm motivated to go bigger if i can.
Great vid it's always refreshing to see people speak with the same passion you feel for something

The director and assistant were here on my farm the whole day and filmed over 2 hours of footage, and then proceeded to leave the whole part filmed here out of the film.  :(  I think the same is true for Frankies nursery, also went there and left him out of the movie.  :o Frank is the real true blue and original American fruit hunter.

Although the film crew was in Hawaii for almost a week you will see that most of the scenes in the movie are shot either in Florida, Bali, Europe, or shot in their studio in LA. I think they just all wanted a long vacation in Hawaii.  ::)

In the fruithunters video you see Campbell arriving home and then he has to drive full speed to his mangotree's to graft the wani-scions asap.

Also i don't understand why he didn't bring the seeds from a wani to Florida to graft on, i guess it's all for the show.

mangifera seeds are not allowed to be brought into the  U.S.

Thats why they have to bring budwood and figure out how to graft it onto indica or one of the available species
