Tropical Fruit Discussion / Kiwi seedlings
« on: October 05, 2017, 09:54:05 AM »
Hello friends,
I managed to germinate some kiwi fruit seeds and in two of my pots I got two different plants. In the first pot I thought that the different plant was a weed and I eliminated it, but now a different plant has emerged in a second pot, so I suspect they are male and female kiwi plants. Does anyone know to confirm whether they are male / female kiwi plants or if the different plant is even a weed?

First pot (I thought left plant was a weed)

Now I have a taller and different plant in a second pot (the tallest plant does not have hairy leaves like most other plants)

Most of the plants in my Kiwi pots have the hairy leaf and look like this:

Could anyone tell me if the taller plant is a Kiwi male or female plant?

Thanks in advance.

Hi myrtaceaeholics,
I'm in contact with friends who have access to trees of this species. We are monitoring the fruits development and probably I will have available seeds in a few weeks. In general, the fruit has an acidic flavor, but there are some variety of trees that produce slightly acidic fruits , even having reports of people who describe it with a slightly sweet taste.

Also some pictures of my seedlings of seeds that my friend brought to me last year.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Selling: Psidium "sertão" seeds
« on: July 26, 2017, 10:07:58 PM »
Hello friends
I have seeds of this Psidium available.
A botanist friend said it is a variety of Psidium guineense with bigger fruits and leaves and Helton think it could be Psidium grandifolium, so I'm not sure about species id. What I can say is that fruit taste is much better than common Psidium guineense in my opinion. Taste is similar to Psidium eugeniaefolia, juicy, aromatic, sweet and slightly acidic. The fruits remain green when ripe. I found only two individuals in the region and both have a lying growth habit.
Local common name: Araçá-do-sertão
