Tropical Fruit Discussion / Yellowing leaves after repotting
« on: November 15, 2019, 11:59:56 AM »
Hi, last week I repotted my cherimoyas, sugar apples, and atemoyas.  Right now I have 2 trees that were fine before, not doing well now.  The sugar apple leaves are curling up, drooping, turning yellow, then black, then dead.  One cherimoya, the leaves are getting yellow, then fall.  I have attach a pic.

After I repotted them, I water it with a mix of water, B1, Iron/Zinc.

1. I did put too much Iron/Zinc or B1 solution in the mix?
2. It's not under water because the moisture leave is past the green mark on the water tester (so maybe too moist)
3.  Should I flush the container with plain water, maybe with some epsom?

Hi friends. I put this tree in the ground about 6 months ago.  It fruited, which was a surprised to me.  Right now the fruit are getting yellow from green, but are small.  They are the size of about a big marble.

1. ready to harvest?
2. just let it continue to grow
3. short on water or nutrients?

So Cal weather.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help with lisa atemoya
« on: November 06, 2019, 12:10:18 PM »
Hi, I just reported this tree.  It wasn't doing too well in the ground.  Now the leaves looks like this. What could be the reason?  The soil is definitely moist enough.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's wrong with my potted Cherimoyas?
« on: October 14, 2019, 12:01:39 PM »
Is it under watered, over watered, 50 degrees nights, low on nutrients, or just normal for this time of the year in So. Cal?

I saw this tree at a house today. It looked like a magnolia tree.  But it has these pods.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help me identify variety of cherimoya
« on: October 13, 2019, 03:53:59 PM »
There is this cherimoya tree at brother's house. Been there for 30 yrs, no fruit.  This year there are 2 fruits.  He didn't know about hand pollination.   These 2 fruits probably from bees.  Here are the pics of the fruit at size of ping pong ball to now which is about the size of a small tangerine.

My mulberry tree/bush is having a growth explosion.  I want to prune it back to have it grow taller, and not wider.  I want to tip the branches, and prune the bottom branches that are close to the ground.  I heard pruning mulberry should be done in the winter when it loses all its leaves.

Thanks.

This picture is from like 2-3 weeks ago. It is about 50% bigger now.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / help with newly planted trees
« on: October 02, 2019, 03:52:45 PM »
Hi, I planted this Lisa Atemoya and Longon about 3 weeks ago.  Now they both look like they are dying.  The atemoya is drooping big time.  The Longon, the bottom branches/ leaves are dead, and the top looks like they are about to die.  I used Kellogg cactus mix for the soil.  I used the moisture meter, and it has "good" amount of moisture.  Should I water some more? Is it transplant shock?

A couple of before and after pictures.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya fruit turned black/purple, dried up
« on: September 20, 2019, 11:58:01 AM »

I have seen this before when the fruit was about the size of a marble.  I thought thought the tree was naturally thinning itself. But now this fruit did the same thing, and it is about the size of ping pong ball.

1. is it natural, since it is a first year tree, and can't support too many fruits yet.
2. too much water (i used the cheap moisture tester on Amazon, and it looks good)
3. too little water
4. not enough nutrients?  (I use 10-10-10 every few months)
5. I have Potash, was planning to put some this weekend

Thanks.

« on: September 15, 2019, 09:31:18 PM »
Hi, one of my atemoya trees, the leaves has yellowing around the edges. Too much, too little water?  Missing nutrients?

I used a moisture tester, and it looks good.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Li jujube dead after 1 week?
« on: September 15, 2019, 12:55:00 PM »
Hi, is my jujube tree dead?  I barely planted it last week. I got the tree from mimosa nursery.  When I planted it, it was already wilting, and very root bound.  I use Kellogg citrus/cactus mix, no fertilizer.   As of today, all the leaves/little branches dropped.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pruning anonas with fruits
« on: September 15, 2019, 10:40:34 AM »
Hi, my atemoya is getting lengthy.  It has fruit in it now.  I was thinking of pinching or pruning of the tips, maybe by about 6" or more.  I heard that if you prine while the tree has fruits, the fruits will drop.  If so, I'll just wait till mar/april.

I have another atemoya tree that also has fruit, and some branches that I want to get rid of. This one the tree is not as pretty.  A lot of thin useless branches.

First, I thought they were longons. But nope.  I had a tree in my backyard for like 20yrs. No fruit. Chopped it down. Today some gave me the fruit to try.  I don't really like it. Maybe  it ripped yet. A little sweet, has wedges.

« on: September 13, 2019, 08:22:33 PM »
Hi, I don't know if these are Geffner or African pride.

This is my tree. It looks like Geffner.

This is my bro in law, his looks like African Pride.  I was trying to get the same variety has his since my wife likes it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Should I top off my Cherimoya tree?
« on: September 09, 2019, 08:12:35 PM »
Hi, I planted this El Bumpo Cherimoya tree about 4 months ago from a 5 gallon pot. It's about 7-8ft tall now.I do not have much space, and it will be difficult to get fruit from a 10ft+ tree.

« on: September 09, 2019, 03:59:47 PM »
Little green grasshoppers are eating the leaves of my young cherimoya trees.  Just let them eat away, or is there any solution to this?

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Yellowing leaves
« on: September 09, 2019, 01:04:38 PM »
Hi, I have a star fruit and atemoya (from seed) trees, and they have yellowing leaves.  There are new growth also.  I read somewhere that if there are new growth, but yellowing leaves, it is a result of overwatering?

I have cut back on the watering, doesn't seem to fix it.  It's been about 90 degrees plus here in So Cal, so I feel like i need to give it a little water though.  I use the cheap moisture tester from Amazon.

Side quesitons, how often do you guys /gals water your trees in the summer?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Frederick Passion Fruit not turning purple
« on: September 06, 2019, 06:14:43 PM »
Hi, I planted my passion fruit plant in Jan (got from lowes).  By July I had about 40 or so passion fruit, but as right now they are still green.  I was thinking maybe because they were all under the leaves and not getting any sunlight.  Last week I pruned the top layer to let the fruits see some light.  Some of the fruits I noticed are showing signs of wrinkles.  One even fell to the ground, but yellow, shriveled, and sour.

Why are my passion fruits not riping?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit bags
« on: September 06, 2019, 02:37:13 PM »
Hi, recently I started to put bags on my growing Atemoya fruits.  Every day 1-3 fruits drop. I am hoping it is just natural fruit thinning.  But could the bags be the reason for the drops?  Should I take the bags off?
