That's good to hear, Botanicus. Did you use any type of protection?

My wife and I plan on being there. Will we see you there, Millet?

I have several rooted cuttings from Bearss lime. They seem to be nearly as easy as Meyer  lemon.

I can only convey my experience with Meyer lemon from cuttings.  I bought two small cuttings just over 3 years ago and planted them in the ground. I have to protect them in winter. They are now over 8 feet tall and wide and carrying well over a hundred lemons each. I have pruned them many times to maintain a size I can handle, and they need it again. Last year they produced 70 - 90 lemons each...I lost count. I give away cuttings all the time and even sell a few after they have grown some. I have some now in pots that have small lemons on them. They grow slower in pots than they do in ground. If room is a factor, you may want to buy a dwarf grafted one.

Hey, Countryboy,.  A little off topic, but are you coming to the Southeastern Citrus Expo this year in Valdosta Ga. I have been to the last two, in Fort Valley Ga, and Savannah, Ga. A lot of fun and informative. Have brought home some nice trees too.

Millet, I find them nearly anytime of day, but we haven't had a lot of sun this year. Most days are cloudy to partly cloudy, or just rainy. They are usually in the shade, though. I have them in my greenhouse also, but I find just as many outside.

I am by no means an expert, but I would ask the questions of whether this is an exceptional cultivar, is it an outstanding producer, and is it worth the extra effort to try to cover in winter. You say you have others in better locations doing much better, maybe you could take a cutting and graft onto one of the other trees, or even try it on its own roots, but plant it high. I personally would probably let go of it and plant one of the newer cultivars in a better place, if you have room. Any excuse for a new tree. Lol

I have seen and removed many, many small snails from my citrus trees this year, but I have seen no damage in the area where they where removed from. Do some snails clean leaves? Can they be beneficial?  Do we any snailologists on here? Lol

Thanks for all the replies.  I fertilized  with 10-10-10 w/micros in Feb. also foliage pro in June. Pretty much all the trees that were in ground last year are putting on large leaves. I would say some of them are on water sprouts, but even new flushes have leaves at least twice the size of older leaves. The trees look healthy with dark green leaves and are growing fast. The large leaves are beautiful to look at.  I also planted some 3-4 ft. pluot trees in March, which have over 7 ft. of growth on them...no fert.  Must be all the rain.

Is the copious amount of rain and very few sunny days the reason for all the extra large leaves on a lot of my citrus trees? They are in ground and get around 8 hours of sun a day ( when it shines).

I have been growing citrus in the ground for three years. They do get some damage in winter, but usually just a little leaf drop or damage to unhardened branches. This year I have noticed many more large leaves and I guess you would call them water suckers. We have had copious amounts of rain and many cloudy days this spring, and was wondering if this is the reason for it. Maybe the tree needs to use up the excess water from the soil. They get at least 8 hours of sun (when it shines). The leaves are large, dark green and beautiful to look at.  This is occurring on several of my trees. Is my thinking way out of line, and if so is there anything I need to do?

Thanks,
TFN

Vlad,
My understanding from Florida University reading, is that they may set larger crop with pollinator, but also seedy fruit. I have only had them once. I picked some last Nov. off the tree at Franklin Farms in Statesboro Ga. The flavor blew my wife and I away. They were delicious. In taste tests, they surpassed Clementine and Honey mandarin. (Of course your mileage may differ) We now have 2 trees.

Got my trees today and already have them in the ground. Had to go pick them up from carrier or they would have stayed in truck all day and night until tomorrow. These are not quite as big as the ones I usually get, but nice looking trees. Let us know what you think when yours arrive.  I have always enjoyed dealing with Brite Leaf.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Arctic Frost beginning to come back
« on: June 26, 2018, 03:51:41 PM »
I planted 3 Arctic Frost last spring. One bloomed profusely, one had a few blooms that dropped when fruit was small and the third one just sat there. They did well during Winter and are growing well, but none bloomed this year. Maybe next spring I will get to try one.

Thanks, NissanVersa, I may have to go that route. I just bought a Glenn Mango tree. I guess I could graft a scion onto a limb of it.

Anyone know of a online source for Rapoza Mango tree? I've heard they are the same as Florida Red Mango, but all searches for "Florida Red" mango have come up empty.

Sorry for the late reply, Countryboy1981. I talked to Amber today via e-mail and my trees are shipping out on Monday.

Send some my way, I'll pay shipping!!! Would love to have some. I plan on getting a Glenn tree as soon as greenhouse can be built. I've never tasted one though.

OK. Looks like they are thrips, just not citrus thrips. I guess I need to break out the horticulture oil.

Thanks all,

Being old and decrepit, I can't seem to catch one of the little rascals to examine it closely. Thrips is what I was thinking, but pictures on google search don't quite look the same. They probably are thrips though. Thanks, Mike T. I'll keep trying to catch one.

I have had aphids before, but these are much larger and move much faster when disturbed. I wish I had taken photos..
