Ask Harry, I think he has done this a few times. if I remember he said they are doing fine but need to plant two trees that grow alike or one will steal all the sun from the other and the smaller one will suffer and/or die off

Beautiful looking Maha!

Yah, risk of burn would be from something with high levels of ammonia (eg, fresh manure). I throw steaming hot mulch on my entire yard 8 - 12 inches deep (roughly 150 cubic yards worth) on a biennial basis with no observable detriment (other than major human fatigue from spreading that much mulch).

The guys in our HOA mowing squad use mulching mowers, which I think is rad.
I also have mulching mower but could also bag the clippings and spread them around the trees and mulch the rest...thought what the hell it's free and if it would work then why not try it! thanks for all the info guys!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Can you use grass clippings for mulch?
« on: July 18, 2013, 05:12:08 PM »
Was thinking of trying this as I mow my grass twice a week in the summer and have a lot of clippings, I was thinking it would be a good source of nitrogen?

Here are some mangos i just picked:
Some of these i've never eaten before, like Fukuda, Harumanis, and Smith. Of the new ones only got to try the Fukuda so far. It was still a bit on the hard side when i cut it but still tasted quite nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. Has a little bit of fiber, but not objectionable. Will review the others later as i slice them.
Question about the Fairchild...is it really a Fairchild? As you can see it has a slight pinkish tinge. Is that possible?
My Fairchild is always green with a slight pale yellow crown

If they did get them patented would it stop ANY backyard grower from grafting & or planting the seeds? I would think not. Hell I'm willing to bet that some backyard growers would even sell them, Just my opinion and I could be wrong!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Harvest Moon mango ?
« on: June 16, 2013, 08:00:09 PM »
I have one in the ground. The leaves are fairly susceptible to anthracnose, but the small fruits didn't seem to have any issue. I was told that the fruit is completely blemish free, which is rare for a late season fruit.

I have a few nice sized 7 gal Harvest Moons that I've been selling for $40 a pop. Let me know if you decide to buy one.
Jeff, What other mango trees do you have for sale?

For most tropicals specially in Florida, Nitrogen is the key. For those who have a small orchard the best way is to apply nitrogen in the form of urea 46-0-0 at $18-$20 for 50 lbs is a great price to Nitrogen ratio. Buy low biuret spray grade Urea. Mix with water and apply it in  drench or with the irrigation system. The same with potassium nitrate 10-0-46 spray grade can be mixed with water and applied to the ground. Minos can be applied foliar or in the mix.  Most in Florida don't need phosphorus, depending of your solid. Don't rule out these very economical ways of applying fertilizer
Carlos, Where do you pick that up at? would love the 10-0-46
