Crazy productive Jakfruit
« on: April 19, 2012, 09:22:51 PM »
Check out my seedling Dang Suria Jakfruit. It has set over 20 fruits so far and more are coming every day. It's a top notch producer....Pretty soon I will remove at least half so they can size up and not kill off the branches. It's 5 years old and only about 12 ft high. Last year it set 16 fruits.

CongratS Noel. Do you use the young jaks for cooking or are they just thrown out?

I have to cut them way before they are ready to use even as green fruit. It's hard to cull fruit from any tree but it's for the best. I have seen branches die when you leave too many. These fruits average 15 to 20 lbs each!

That is one damn healthy jakfruit tree.  Have you prunes t to keep it at 12 feet or is that it's natural height ?  If natural, that is pretty good (compact speaking) for a seedling tree.

Hi FloridaGreenMan,

The Jacks look awesome...thanks for sharing! :)

BTW what was your biggest jackfruit you produced in your orchard?

Nice Tree Noel.  I am also interested in your knowing your pruning plan.

I just prune the top at least twice during the summer to keep it at 12ft.   Since it's a seedling it has not grown very wide so I have not had to trim the sides yet.

The pulp is crunchy and has a real nice flavor. Not as sweet as the J-31 but very nice.  One of my Jamaican customers has already called and reserved 3 of these fruits. My biggest so far has been 23lbs.
