Just A Reminder
« on: January 22, 2015, 06:00:22 PM »
Is your tree beginning to drop more leaves than normal?  This is, or soon will be, the time of year, especially for warm grown container trees, to start  blooming.  For citrus trees, the blooming season is also the heaviest time of year when citrus trees drop more leaves.  This is normal. - Millet

My Cara Cara Pink Navel orange, Bearss Lime, Valentine Pummelo and Valencia are all in heavy bloom and flushing,  Because of this I have been picking up discarded leaves off the ground every morning.  As stated above this type of leaf drop is normal.  While picking up the leaves I notice that the ants are out and about. What is a good ant bait? - Millet

We use amdro here in Texas for fire ants. Doesn't work for crazy ants though.
Don't expect you have fire ants in Colorado.

I have a lot of trees that lost leaves, but is it related to temperature or just seasonal flushing or both?

I know that many of my citrus leaves were lost to caterpillars in Nov/Dec, but I did see a considerable amount of leaf drop.

If your trees are flushing, it is a common period for leaf drop also. - Millet

Some leaf drop is normal, but heavy leaf fall is not healthy.
Aside from temperature factors, if you had/or still carry a heavy crop, heavy leaf fall can be an indication that potassium levels have been exhausted.

I use bifenthrin granules to control fire ants.  We don't have crazy ants, so I don't know how it wold work for them.  For shipping plants out of state or country, we dip roots of plants in a bifenthrin solution.
