Jackfruit flowers
« on: December 18, 2015, 11:11:30 AM »
My jackfruit has been flowering for weeks and my friend's has actually set a couple fruit. Last year was the first time I got fruit and I don't remember when the flowering started. It seems early and the weather has been extra warm but I know jackfruit kind of does it's own thing. Is this normal? Anybody else have fruit or flowers right now?

Yes ,possible for jackfruit flowers  to be potentially any time of year.  Depending on the variety,  flowering now could be normal.

I think i have seen jackfruit harvested in every month for more than 12 months straight in Palm Beach County (from various varieties and from various trees, not all from one tree).

Thanks Rob, that is what I was hoping for. Year round jackfruit is a dream come true. It is good to hear that is possible.

Here's are pics of my grafted Bangkok lemon from Excalibur today:

Some small fruit are forming now, honestly can't remember a month I havnt seen flowers on this. I have problems with rhizopus causing the male flowers to get covered in mold and fall off, but in a previous post I detailed how I pruned the tree per another articles recommendation and now the tree has its first fruits forming.

Nice Joe! That is a beautiful tree. Are you going to keep it around that size? I have the moldy male flowers as well which I assumed that was typical. Bangkok Lemon is supposed to be amazing. I am keeping mine around 8' and last year was my first fruit and it is looking like I'll get a few this year as well.

Joe - that is normal for the male flowers after the pollen loses its viability.

Good to know rob thanks. Vernmented, I plan on having the tree grow large and selected its location in my yard with that intent. Funny thing my wife hates jackfruit, like despises it and I had to beg her to let me plant the tree (she is crazy I know), but aside from the fruit being delicious IMO they are pretty trees with nice foliage and she says its now her favorite looking tree in our yard lol.

MarvelMango, your flowers are male.  Look at JoeP450's photo. Those are female.

Male.  You probably want to remove the grafting tape on the trunk.

No thats holding the vanilla on. It's not very tight I put it on myself. Thats a vanilla leaf in the pic that makes it look like the tape is cutting int0 the truck
