Been a while.
« on: December 14, 2016, 02:15:17 PM »
It's been a while since I've been back into the citrus. I hope everyone is well.

A few from my trees this week...

Blood clementine, Rudy red, variegated orange & Australian bloodlime.

Good to hear from you again!
I still look in on the old forum once in a while, but it seems to have gone completely now.
I'm having problems with my website too. The hosting company seems to have failed, so I'm having to move the whole site over to another company. It's quite tricky to do, and I'm not sure I've got all the settings correct. It will keep me busy for a while sorting it all out!
How are all your variegated varieties doing?
I've still got the variegated PT from a piece of budwood you sent me years ago. But it doesn't do very well. The yellow part tends to die back in winter - and it's mostly yellow, so the whole plant never seems to get any bigger.

Hey guys. I got rid of most of my container stuff. Still have a few lemons in containers, but most everything else is in the ground & doing well. Forumup is gone without any warning.

The Blood clementine has a raspberry flavor to it.

Mike, at least you have the variegated trifoliata. Mine died when I tried to move it...

On a side note, I'm in the process of taking out 30 citrus trees, planted too many satsumas & other citrus I don't use. The Harbor Freight chipper does a awesome job of turning them into mulch.  :)

Grew it from seed I was sent from France back in 2005. One thing a lot of people don't realize is almost all citrus hybrids come true from seed.

Laaz really nice seeing you again.  Your the man when it comes to citrus forums.  How are your dogs?  Do you still have the Sunrise Lime that Citrus Joe sent you?

Hey Laaz, great to hear from you ! I bought 3 Rubentino clementino from you 3 years ago. The tag I made says 'from Laaz late 2013'. They were small seedlings started probably earlier in 2013. I gave two away to friends to spread the risk. At least 2 are still alive and doing fine  but no fruit yet. Is that a blood clementine like the picture above ? I'm thinking yes and that fruit is from the parent tree.  How many years did it take for yours to fruit ? Thanks. Tom

Hey Tom. Yes the same fruit. Took 5 years from seed to fruit. I took budwood from my original tree & sold it. Grafted a tree from my budwood & it has fruited every year since.

Mine were some seed you started and then sold to me and others after they were going good. Not really bare root but wet rooted ! I keep trimming the thorns off and it keeps putting on more. Some scale , a few aphids but I'd say it's biggest pest has been those bloody spider mites each year that sneak up on me when it's very hot in late summer. Mine is very upright, similar to Juanita to me. So I've got 2 more years before we see what the fruit looks like. I can hardly wait. And if I successfully grafted a stick from my bush it would probably have fruit in two more years also ? Thanks. Tom

Yes, you can't rush the node count. I have a bunch of new seed going now. I'll be grafting up some from my mother tree this spring.

I have always enjoyed people telling me I can't grow something here... I have always proved them wrong.

Hi Adriano. I am in the process of taking out about 30 trees. I have thousands of mandarins go to waste every year, so time to remove a bunch of trees & replace them with more palms.
