That brix reading is crazy high but the "abundant fiber" description isn't very appealing.

If it's anything like the regular or white Chaunsa, the fiber content is similar to that of Haden.

Hi Simon,

In Pakistan, they also call it Kala Chaunsa. Kala means black in Punjabi .

I believe there are four types of mangoes/Chaunse (maybe more) in Pakistan. They have chaunsa Black , chaunsa white ,  chaunca late and chaunsa samar bahisht.

Edit

I think they call it black chaunsa because  the skin stays green even when it is fully ripe.

The reason why I started this topic is because last year I had one of the most amazing mango I have ever had in my life.  The mango was green even when it is fully ripe ( i believe it is from Pakistan), very sweet ( similar to other Pakistani cultivars) and the flesh was orange-yellow. The flavor was unique, it had a strong but pleasant mango-coconut flavor and was very aromatic. It was love from the first bite  8).

I have eaten many types of mangoes and in my opinion nothing comes close to it.

black chaunsa is commercially grown in Pakistan, so I should be able to get the fruit in here between June or July. I will report back once I find it. Unfortunately, I don't think I can get black chaunsa tree but I need to ask more people. Normal chaunsa or white chaunsa mango tree is available at local nursery.

Another Pakistani mango that I would love to try is Sammar bahisht aka "fruit of paradise". This cultivar is supposed to be one of the best in Pakistan.

Here is a description of the fruit.

It has originated as a superior chance seedling in Muzaffernager U.P. It got its name because of its pleasant flavor. Fruit medium, base slightly flattened, shoulders equal, sinus very light, beak point prominent, skin greenish yellow, thin, pulp yellow, very sweet, sparsely fibrous, flavor pleasant to delicious. Stone medium and oblong, oval. Quality of the fruit is very good, keeping and peeling qualities well. Ripening season July-August.

Had pakistani mangos here spelled Chonsa instead of Chaunsa. The taste was similar to Ataulfo mangos

The Chaunsas I've had were sweeter and had some Indian resin flavor compared to the Ataulfo.

I bought a case of sindhri mangoes and a case of chaunsa mangoes imported from Pakistan. Taste excellent , very sweet and delicious. Also tried Indian Kesar. All of them has their own unique taste, but my personal favorite is Chaunsa. Trying to plant couple of good mango trees in my backyard.

The two mangoes that I have had that taste like coconut are Pickering and Choc Anon. Pickering is the better tasting of the two. Very good mango!

Would not really recommend Choc Anon and never rwally detected any coconut flavor either.

As for those with distinct coconut flavor:  Pickering  (when fully rile only), Coconut Cream,  M4, Gary, Pina Colada.  There are some that I have at times detected a hint of coconut flavor but not with any consistency.

Both Black and White Chaunsa  were added to the experimental station recently,  trees are small still.  so will be at least 1-2 years before they have any mangoes.   so what is the verdict on fiber?  is it as fibrous as Haden or much less so?

noticed from many different pictures online that White chaunsa , does have some white hazy coloration on the skin,  but not sure why the black Chaunsa is called that.

Not 100% sure where they sourced it, but I speculate it was from Fairchild, as most others at the station are from there,  they also have the Sindhri at the station here.

I bought a box of imported from Pakistan box of Chaunsa and Sindhri , they were delicious . I germinated the seeds and it looks like i should have a seedling soon. Any idea what can i do with it now , since its not grafted and will take forever to bear fruit also grom super big. I need some information on picking a scion or budwood for it to graft.
