I've seen people bring these cuttings to CRFG meetings but then people mention toxicity so I didn't get one to grow. I think it's easy to grow.

freeze killed mine back
(zone 9 New Orleans)  26F - but it came back fine.
Chaya needs to be cooked.
there are several other edible leaves i like better.
Katuk is edible raw, and tastes like peanuts.
baobob actually has one of the best tasting leaves ive had.
and i think its just as healthy, or more, than Chaya.
Tree spinach is rather good also (chenopodium giganteum ?)

I'm sorry that your tree got fried hopefully it will bounce back. I use Chaya almost exclusively with yucateca cuisine so there is no comparison. We use it countless ways in preparing food.

it already started coming back.
i have another that is close the the house, the bricks keep it warm and it doesnt freeze.

i am just lazy
i dont cook much, and i like to browse when i am outside.
i get most of my greens from eating fresh while i am working in the garden... LOL

i will have to try coking with it.
i have had it 2 years and only ate it once steamed, and one in a stir fry.

I love katuk and chaya. What are referring to when you write "tree spinach"? I always heard chaya called Mexican tree spinach.

Does it have fruits like papaya? Kidding but it looks just like a papaya. Any restaurants around LA serve the food?

Thank you, Frank.

The restaurant is just across from USC. I used to walked across the campus and had lunch at the original El pollo loco on Figueroa St  - when they were not a franchise -- and they carbon the fresh chickens on the steel rods, on charcoal fire bed.

Can't find Chaya con huevo on the menu, but the tamale stuffed with Chaya sounds interesting, but I will skip the green drink for now to build up my toxic resistance first. Very interesting menu I'd like to try all.

At a party I recently had an appetizer/finger food which was chaya leaves folded over & stuffed with seasoned rice. Very good.

Just request scrabble eggs with Chaya and beans very typical yucateca meal you may also ask for Chaya empanadas with cheese al go well with habanero chili

You were curious about similarities between the Chaya and Papaya leafs.
Here are the two side by side so you can compare
