Anyone growing Phyllanthus acidus? (Otaheite Gooseberry)
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:47:02 AM »
I am growing one in a container from seeds I got from Adam.

I have several questions on them.

1. Does anyone else grow these in a container and able to fruit?

2. How long before it fruits?

3. Are there cultivars or selected trees that have superior tasting fruit or large fruit etc?

I kept 3 plants and was able to easily graft branches from each other.

Thanks!

I am growing one in 30 gallons. This is the first time it flowers and fruits. I saw 4 Tiny fruitlets . I did not grow it from seed so I don't know how long it takes to set fruits. There are two types: sweet and sour. I have the sour one, based on the seller . I have to wait maybe in a few months to confirm the taste.

Thanks! How tall is your tree and do you prune it to keep it contained?

Since the fruit seems to bear on the trunks my thinking is to prune it often to create more branches and control height and width.

Anyone growing the sweet type? Would love to graft a branch on to my tree.
