Recommendation on guava variety
« on: August 19, 2017, 04:26:52 PM »
I am not a guava fan, they are ok, but my wife loves.  I live in Scottsdale,  AZ, zone 9b. They guava I bought I Beaumont red.  For third year in a row it has produced fruit and for the third time my wife has complained that the fruit are too bland for her tastes.
My wife was born and lived in Nicaragua until she was 9.  She used to eat the guava in her neighborhood, mostly under ripe.
She is not into sweet fruit, but, she wants her guava very flavorful.
She has no idea what variety she used to eat.  Does anyone of the central American posters on here have a good guess on what variety is most popular in Nicaragua?
Does anyone else have a suggestion for a guava tree that is flavorful, but, not necessarily sweet?  Also, that can handle over night lows to 28?
