Wondering if anyone in South Florida is growing and successfully fruiting Lemon Drop Mangosteen or Achachairu Garcinia Humilis (Orange Mangosteen)??? If so, any recommendations? I'd also like to see some photos to gauge the health of a tree in my area if possible.  Thanks!

Grow both in Brisbane Australia (10A/10B Range). Both were fine unprotected for their first winter. Both look rubbish though from their first summer (sunburn). I think our climate is similar to there on average but we don’t get the really cold frosts you guys seem to occationaly get. Sunburn in summer may be more of a problem here too.

There is a lemon drop tree in North Broward that I had the pleasure of sampling/ picking fruit from by a generous forum member some 2 yrs ago. It was about 6ft tall and healthy.
The Earth laughs in flowers. And bear gifts through fruits.
No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)

I think quite a few people have grown Lemon Drop successfully down here but now that the nicer Garcinias are spreading around you hardly any talk about it.

(Lemon drop) Like a weed in full sun here. Smaller tree than Achacha, fruits faster and at smaller tree size. Fruits developing more often than not throughout the year.

Achacha one crop per year and tree needs to be more mature to fruit.

Both appreciate some shade when young.

That’s some great info. I’m growing some palms in 25gal so I’ll place the seedling Garcinias amongst them to provide light shading while they are young. Thank you

Hurricane Irma nocked this Achachairu to the ground. I was hopeful to get fruit from it next year but we’ll see how Irma affected it. These pics are from today so it looks like it wasn’t affected too much. The tree is about 12 feet tall now and I have had it in the ground for over 5 years.
