The name of that variety is Daily 11. That record has since been broken by another type of avocado that is 5 pounds 8 ounces. See here https://www.facebook.com/groups/127197321932/search/?query=avocado%20record
But those are only people who bother to document their fruits to Guiness. I have one neighbor that told me has had avocados that were 12 pounds!

It's fun to know about these giant cados.....but what about the quality of the fruit? Taste, oil density, consistency?

95% water, 4% solids, 1% oil.  ;D

I've never tasted Daily 11. But Ken Love, and others, posted about it on facebook and said it is quite good. Here is what he said:
med high oil content , no strings -- great taste -- its called Daily 11
The size of a fruit does not at all determine the oil content or quality. Some of the giant avocados are excellent. Just like there are excellent giant sized mangoes.

I'm trying to get my neighbor to save me one of his whoppers. The ones in Guiness are tiny by comparison. The record holders in Guiness are often not anywhere close to the largest. Another example is jackfruit. The record holder in Guiness is about 70 pounds, also from Kona. But we know full well there are jackfruits in India weighing well over 125 pounds. You will see a lot of the records in Guiness are from Kona. It's not a coincidence. It's just that Ken Love who lives in Kona is encouraging people there to document their large fruit and send the information to Guiness. It's good he is doing that. But more places should do the same. The fruit and vegetable record section in Guiness is pretty new.

Hmm, I have a Marcus Pumpkin I just found and bought.  Maybe I'll eliminate all but one or two fruits after it gets established to try and grow a giant.

Anybody eaten one of the MP?  We have a nurseryman in the valley (along the Mexican border) that swears by it, says it's the best.  Down there by comparison it's W. Indies X Guat. hybrids, not Cali types.

Marcus Pumpkin is an average Florida “West Indian hybrid” avocado flavor.

Eugenia luschnathiana = CURUIRI.    Talisia esculenta = PITOMBA
I do not recommend people deal with Fruit Lovers, Prisca Mariya or Fernando Malpartida

I am once again reminded that Acocado is derived from the Aztec word for a man's anatomy.............I guess some Avocado trees are bigger studs than others.  : )
Blessed be the man who plants a tree knowing he will never live to enjoy it's fruit or shade.

Are there aome comparable (in tasteto hass) giant smooth skinned varieties.  The ones here are huge but tasteless.  Ok for drinks and processing but pretty bland.  They seem quite similar to the Hawaiian ones which is likely where much of taiwans genetkcs were sourced.

Who ever sourced them in Hawaii did a very bad job. We have many avocados much better in quality than the Hass here.

I agree with Oscar the big Island is vast with huge selection seedling avocados with a lot of potential. You need to live their for extensive period for evaluation .Oscar how about looking for some on the wet side of the Island that might be suited for florida.

I would try Malama, Yamagata, and Kahaluu. I just picked my first San Miguel which looks and tastes promising.
