I have a healthy 5-ft. Beverly mango tree that has been in the ground about 15 months.  It looks to be a vigorous grower--too vigorous for the allotted space! :o  It's definitely not a compact tree like the 4 other mango trees I planted.  Besides, I've been ordered  by my wife to use the space for something other than mango. ;)

So it's yours if you'd like to come by and dig it up.  If you have a fruit tree or plant to trade, that would be nice, but it isn't necessary--as long as you let me come by to visit my tree when it's bearing and leave with a bag full of fruit! :)  I'm conveniently located near I-95.  PM or email me if interested.

There is that palate difference...I will take Neelam over any of the late season mangoes on any given day.

Here's a question for the mango experts.  This tree has a lot of light green new growth.  Is it best to wait a few weeks until these leaves harden and turn dark green before transplanting the tree?

I think if you are waiting for all leaves to be hardened off prior to moving it, you may be caught in a summer-long waiting game.  Whenever you move it, just make sure you get a good mass and keep the entire rootball intact.  This will leave the least amount of shock and possible damage.  Then once you have moved it to its new home, it will need lots of water and care to make a smooth transition for survival and prevent shock/drying/leaf drop.

Thanks, Rob.  I have a customer for the tree.  We're going to wait a few weeks.

Moving mango trees can be risky, but I've found some ways to have success. I've had best success if I put the mango tree in 60%+ shade for 2 to 4 weeks. It also seems to help if you do the transplanting during our summer rainy season. Transplants during the winter dormant season seem to croak fairly often.

That was one of Pedalai Master's three alternate accounts. Unfortunately, you will probably not get a response from any of them.

So, what's the consensus on the flavor of the Neelam? I've had a couple; some years they were gross, other years they were good. Not sure if I'm off my rocker or if they are very variable.

I've been pretty pleased with Keitt. Reliable producer of decent quality late mangoes. Last year we froze the pulp from our keitts and had mango smoothies from the end of last mango season to the beginning of this year's mango season.

Many people think that keitt is vigorous. It's actually pretty tame. I've been able to keep mine in check with minimal effort. Since harvest is so late, it only has a couple of months to grow before winter dormancy kicks in.

There's a great picture of a keitt that has been trained to a mango bush in this IFAS article on HD mango pruning (lower right hand corner page 545). http://www.aalfs.org/descargas/7.pdf

I have not found them to be any more variable that any other when it comes to a dilution percentage based on the rain...otherwise, the taste and texture quality all seem to very consistent,  They do tend ti have that strong quality you get from an Indian mango but that, along with their complexity and sweetness, is what makes them desirable and tops on my late season list.

Mine have been pretty consistent from a flavor standpoint.  I like them. There is a more complex flavor.....a sort of spiciness that I like. That being said, I also think very highly of Beverly.  Beverly seems to be a better producer for me......excellent disease resistance and its a larger fruit.  The flavor of Beverly is more in the Kent/Keitt realm.......which is not a bad thing, just different.
