Juglans sp. - Wild walnut

John in PR , this is something for you .

I went to check on these in the jungle , found one tree ( huge ) with fruits all the way on the top . Not sure when they will be ripe , I guess they just fall on the ground when ripe .

They look like regular walnuts, with harder shell..here they are ripe when the outer green skin start to break and drying and then it fall to ground, then they should dry for some more time.. Also there is an liquere made from young fruits..


Here is one lost walnut I found this spring in garden sprouting..

I had researched tropical walnuts in the past but settled on trying neotropica as it seemed to be the only one readily available. Those are Juglans Major nuts.Neotropica has red husks.

The nut resembles Japanese walnut Juglans ailantifolia.

The nuts can also be from a Junglans nigra tree...ist nuts have a pretty hard shake
