Title: What are cool, rare vegetables I should try growing in San Diego?
Post by: BonsaiBeast on November 27, 2018, 04:49:41 PM
I am really into rare fruits, I have tons of exotic subtropical fruit trees planted in my yard, but I thought I'd look into interesting vegetables to grow.

Just like the rare fruits, I'm looking for things I dont find at the store that taste delicious.

Let me know!

Lots of tropical vegetables depending on what season and what you like. Some are semi-perennial, some annual.
Check out these sources:

The lady who runs this store has lots of videos showing how to grow, prepare & what to expect.

You can search this forum for others experience or just ask. Good luck.

I read your post and it sounded like my greenhouse! I have been branching out lately from tropical fruits to a few tropical greens - bitter leaf (vernonia amydalina), water leaf (talcum triangular), longevity spinach (gynura procumbens) and spineless chaya (cnidocolus aconitifolius).
Also, if you have room, cassabanana (sicana odorifera) is really fun.
Don't forget the solanum genus, too! It think there is a good post somewhere about the wide variety.

Cheers!
