Looks like it might have some magnesium deficiency.

I tried this particular fruit today Mike brought by a piece it was over mature the seed had sprouted which is not a good taste in jak.He said people were still buying cut pieces at market. He had one in a earlier stage maturity that was very good 84lbs.One jak left, still on the tree 50ish lbs the (runt) came on tree later.

Planted in 2005 ,even though it was grafted it was a good 10 years till fruiting.Taste is very very sweet, but not bubble gum flavor a lighter fruit flavor firm melting flesh, almost oily ,yellow color.
I should of took the other fruit on the other side of the tree off, then it probably would have broke the 100lb mark.

Honeybees in my area strip the pollen at some times of the year, so fast that I have to beat them to it so I can collect to pollanate.

Yes zone 10 or higher,Telfairia occidentalis seems more cold sensitive than Telfairia pedata. Other problems are nematodes.I don't( think) it would survive a freeze to the ground most likely rot would set in.

Growing in a pot might be a bit of a challenge this vine is massive I have a 2 year old female vine that is 6 inch thick supposed to reach 100 feet long.Telfairia pedata is much more aggressive growing than Telfairia occidentalis which I am growing now,and have fruited.
