I was not aware of this atemoya until reading this story. I am not sure just how good it is. South East Queensland seems to be an engine room for atemoya development and consumption.

That's funny, Mike, Frank showed me this article just a couple of days ago! Looks like another Pink's Mammoth excellent bud sport.

That's pretty exciting stuff. Be very keen to try a fruit or two.

Help this non-scientist.  What causes a bud sport?  Do the genes spontaneously mutate?  (Anyway, very exciting news to start 2018!  I trust that Frank has Australian connections, and we'll see this variety in La Habra or nearby soon.)

Awesome :) haven’t seen this one around but sounds like a worthy addition to the orchard if/when it’s available.

Its striking pastel colours stand out from the traditionally green-skinned fruit.

"Generally custard apples are not a very attractive fruit, and I guess a lot of Australians don't know what to do with it," Ms Martin said.

Shoot fire, I think Custard Apples are quite attractive!

This new variety has been around for a few years... back yard growers will never see it..... I am led to believe that the owners want royalties for each fruit sold.... therefore limiting scionwood to only commercial growers........  The Queensland government also has a really dark pink skin variety that is ready for release but again will only be available to commercial ventures....... And I have no problem with that for the variety found by the original grower (though good luck..) but that other one.. just as long as non of that is tax payer funded hey Mike... :/
