Title: Wanted - Acrocomia totai seed or seedlings.
Post by: Laaz on December 14, 2016, 04:08:52 PM
Not citrus, but a palm. There are quite a few in central & northern FL. I have been looking for this for a few years now Any help locating seed or seedlings would be great! They look a lot like queen palms, but the trunks on younger trees are loaded with spines...

Its a long shot but there is a recent post from March of this year at

The members Josh-O and Stevetoad seem to have one. Perhaps you can contact them and or others there to source this palm.

Redland Nursury in Homestead fl shows the a. totai in their inventory at one point.  Phone: (305) 248-5109They might steer you in the right direction at least.

Ive looked around- this is a rare palm at least in the nurserys. Seems limited to Central and mostly South Florida.  Shows a cold tolerance of 26 degrees. Id be curious for some of these seeds as well the more I looked into them.

Id sure feel sorry for the person who fell into one of these... Perhaps I could plant ten or so along the property line.... they scream back off lol.

Ill keep looking in the meantime..

Redland doesn't have any, I've tried about every thing in google search. They are very hardy. There is one at the bamboo farm in Savannah that has taken 13F and is still kicking. They are two at my friends house here in historic Charleston, but they have not set seed yet. I'll find the photos...

They are scattered from Dade city FL up to Jacksonville... I just need to find someone with access to seeds or small plants. Dave Witt used to sell them & was going to get me some, but the trees are in his ex wifes yard he doesn't get along with her...

Been after a couple of these for a few years now...

Great pictures Laaz. Looks like a protected area from the cold winds. I would think they are large enough to seed. Have they not produced any yet?  Id like some of these as well. i have had no luck in the search..yet.  My cousin in Miami is looking for me there no news . Im sure that the palm would grow

What type of Avacado- did he say?

No they haven't ever seeded yet. The avocado is a Mexican type.
