Third flush in 2 weeks? Do you mean that it has flushed in different parts of the the tree? I find it hard to believe that a mango tree can push and harden growth 3 times in 2 weeks on the same branch.

Sounds like its time for some fungicide!

Two flushes on one branch...yes, it flushed a second time prior to the first flush hardening.  The third flush were on branches that did not flush initially, but at different times than either of the prior two flushes.  Whether tip pruning the soft growth had anything to do with it or not, I have never seen any mango produce flushes like this in such a short period of time.

other than the basic monthly "maintenance", for what reason ?

Sounded like adnormal growth.. Maybe MANGO MALFORMATION!! But from the above comment it sounds like just one flush...

No, definitely no malformation...very normal flushes.  As Shmurahileehan knows, I will be keeping an eye on certain mangoes for any signs... :-[

I'm definitely sold on tip pruning and have had VERY good results from it...I did this to my Glenn last summer and it responded very well to it.

Here's some pictures I took right after I "tip" pruned Taken 6-4-11

Almost 3 weeks later...Taken 6-25-11 That white paint on the upper trunk was from the freeze damage two years prior...this one did not fruit last year because the freeze nailed it.

Sorry for the delay but here are the pics of my coco cream tree.  The top of that new growth you see is six feet from the ground.

You had to have bought that in 7 gallon?? It's coming along real good. Lots of greenery branching out due to your tip pruning at 6" I think you said

Yes, I purchased as a 7 gallon but it had literally JUST been potted up from a 3 gallon....so depending on how you want to look at it, it was a very small 7 gallon or a large 3 gallon.

You are correct, I have been tip pruning at about 6 inches or so...I am actually going to hit the newest shoots you see today or tomorrow.  I really like the way this is growing so far.

Can you humor me? I see the new (flush) growth. To tip prune it will you cut off the topmost leaf node off so you lose 3-4 leaves........

......Or will you squash the tiny terminal growth at the end (just above the last leaf node) between your thumb and index finger?

I actually cut it...being careful to make sure the node I cut above will be beneficial directional wise.  In other words, I go down to the node where the nodes are facing the best direction so the new branches will come out in a beneficial shape (to avoid crossers where possible.

Thanks much! Got you on all that! I have a few mango trees I want nice and bushy via tip pruning. I have been tip pruning but want to do it better.

Finally growth flushes on my Pickering--it's been in the ground since January. ;D  "I'm so excited! I just can't hide it!  I'm about to lose to control, and I think I like it!"  (Man, crazy fruit tree hobbyist!)
