Ice cream mango
« on: July 14, 2018, 05:49:38 AM »
I acquired an "Ice Cream" a couple of years ago from a forum member and this year it held three fruit to ripen on the tree. I was pleasantly surprised at it. The flesh is soft, sweet, with a hint of spicy pine flavor. I now look forward to the crop next season, and rather than keep it in the container, I just may put it in the ground.

Are there any other fans of this cultivar?

Regards,

I love Ice Cream Mango. It’s very sweet and has a unique somewhat savory umami flavor that is hard to describe in words. I just wish the tree were larger and faster growing. It would also be nice if the fruit were larger.

I'm a huge fan of it. Very delicious fruit that can get fairly big with a flan like textured flesh. Extremely sweet with strong piney taste and sweet smelling piney sap. Seems like a alternate year bearer (mabye every 2 years) and can set a 2nd crop from it's second bloom. Moderate vigor with a natural branching habit.

No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)

In my Top 5 so far maybe even top 3. It did drop a lot of fruit though however I'm not exactly sure why.

Ice cream is great. The fruit are small so you’re left wanting more

I traded the most beautiful Ice Cream on earth back to Fruitscapes nursery. I was not a fan of that pine taste or whatever you want to call it. It was super sweet and really too sweet for my taste also.

You may want to stay away from some of the newer Zill varieties as they are ultra candy sweet. Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart, Piña Colada, Coconut Cream, etc...

I have had them all and have LZ, OS, M-4, Phoenix, Peach Cobbler, and Dot. I do not like certain types based on flavor, not just sweetness.  I know Honey Kiss or Juicy Peach would probably win me over big time but am out of room.  Need to add a few to the ones I have if I want to accomplish that.
