Green's Nursery in Apopka/Zellwood, FL is one of the best nurseries for fruit trees (and ornamental plants).

www.GreensNursery.com

Please check them out if you get a chance!

I bet he has some the best prices and plants you can find!

here are some of the persimmons he just got in....they were $40 ea...in 7gal, about 6ft tall, covered in fruits!  (notice all the mango trees from Zill's in the background?  ;D )

I think he only has about 4 left!

What type of persimmons are in the background?
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

no they don't offer shipping.  I believe they will deliver if you are buying a bunch of stuff (like large wholesale orders), and you are on their route, which if I'm not mistaken, runs from Alabama to Homestead.

While we are discussing mangoes, can you tell me if the orange sherbert mango is more cold tolerant than lemon zest?

Cant really comment.  Have only seen 2 true OS trees and have not had witnessed them during any true cold spells.  Since the cold 2010 winter, have not seen any different effect from temps but then sgain, the temps were not really cold.  The large grafted OS sits right next to 2 large grafted LZs and neither show any different coming out of winters.

My 2 cents, while OS is very good, it would not get as much hype if it were available.  A good LZ trumps a good OS, in taste and texture.

Based on your logic, how can one mango possibly be more cold tolerant of the other?

I thought you were saying there are no mangoes that show variation of tolerance to cold ?

You were supposed to say niether..becasue all mangoes are the same when it comes to cold tolerance

I believe my answer says just that, just not in the smart ass answer you would have liked.

Are some mangies more affected by cold, possibly depending on variety and size.  Does that make any of them cold hardy, no, not in the least bit.  Do i believe a k own super cold hardy mango exusts, no.  Could one ever be created, possibky, would never sat never...

I don't have a problem with someone saying a mango is "cold hearty"...if they can demonstrate that it's more tolerant of cold

I guess you don't believe the claims made by Tim Thompson of Ca?

Didn't he release some?

Thanks for the info JF.  I remember hearing a few members that had doubts...

It will be interesting to hear some reports from the growers who bought these trees.

After this winter I will send a message to the guy on YouTube who made the video about the tree..I'm curious to see how the winter treats his mango.

It won't take long for word to spread...people will get angry if their trees die at typical temps (in the high twenties)

Adam
I can't give you a report on any of Tim's  new varieties but I can tell you a lot about his Timotayo. I've been following them for four years. This year we enter them in one of our tasting since Tim refuse my invitation to bring his tequila sunrise and others to my September tasting. Timotayo came in dead last with a brix of 13 everyone agree the fruit looked impressive but the mango was underwhelming. The tree is compact and pumps out hundreds of mangos yearly but the taste leaves a lot to be desire and I tried them at all different levels of ripening.
