Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Trade Winds selling Garcinia again?
« on: April 27, 2013, 11:57:45 AM »
Hey everybody, was just looking at trade winds seed website and look what I found http://www.tradewindsfruitstore.com/servlet/the-1220/Garcinia-mangostana--dsh--Mangosteen/Detail
I thought they weren't going to do garcinias anymore, and if they were why would they start with a hard one like mangosteen?

Hey everyone, for a good soursop alternative im' planning to grow mountain soursop here because of it's resistance to cold, and low humidity, just to keep things easy though, im' ONLY going to buy from someone in the US because I don't want to have to deal with all the ag stuff. Thank-you, seed sources for it would be nice too. Regards below

Hey everyone, im' craving soursop again and the markets here absolutely NEVER get any other annonas other than Cherimoya and Custard Apple, so is there any reliable source that can ship me fresh soursop?

5
Hey everyone, looked at my collection today and noticed that my 2 African custard apple trees had died for some unknown reason, they were 2-3 yrs. old and started from seed( the source was Tradewinds). Anyway I would like a new tree or 2 to put here because I have always wanted to taste an african annona OTHER than Junglesop which there is a 92% chance your not going to try it unless you take a trip to africa and search day and night for it. Reminds me, I had a dream that I took a trip to africa and brought back junglesop scion and grafted it onto cherimoya rootstock. I woke up from that good dream in the next 1-2 min. Thanks everyone

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanted: Seashore Mangosteen plant
« on: April 20, 2013, 01:09:59 AM »
Hey everyone, I did some research and found that the Seashore Mangosteen(Garcinia hombroniana) would be MUCH easier to grow and fruit here than normal mangosteen. So does anybody have or no of a source where to get plants? Thank-you

Hey everyone, I am getting bored of common cherimoyas and biribas so I decided to try some other rollinias, this one seems to have nice fruit, not sure how cold hardy, could someone notify me of how cold hardy it is and how much humidity it rerquires? Thank U all

12
Hey everyone, I was looking for another awesome, hardy and tasty Rollinia to grow and came cross' these 2. So if anybody has seeds or knows where to get them please reply to this post. If you are in the US budwood would be nice to have as I just germinated some Biriba seeds which can be used as rootstock.

Hey everyone, I had some Salak seeds from Oscar, and I planted them and 1 month later I pulled them out and there were wriggling fungus gnat larvae in there drilling through the seed, only 2 survived, but if the wrath of the larvae comes again, what would be an easy, non-pesticide way to kill em'?

Hey everyone, my soncoya is getting too voluminous to still keep inside, so I was curious to know how well they would do outside in 10b with an avg. of 55-60 degree temps. Also, in an erstwhile post, I was looking for a source for Araticum seeds, still haven't found a dependable one in brazil, but when I do, and when the seeds grow into trees, how well would they do in zone 10b?

15
Hey everyone, so I love the taste of durian, hate the smell, and would absolutely love to grow a species with good quality fruit that can survive low humidity, about 50%-75% and our low 55 degree temperatures and average 65-75 temps although about 7 times a year we get below that, sometimes less. So I already know that Durio Macrantha with about 10 years in a greenhouse would do well here, but that is near impossible to obtain from where I live, so are there easier to obtain same cold tolerance if not more species I could obtain seeds of with little trouble? Pleased with any help at all, Regards-PM

Hey everyone, had some suckers running low on my jaboticaba, as you know, jaboticaba is really slow growing so my thought was to try to root it. So far I have used no rooting hormone( I grow all my plants organically and naturally), or even willow water, but it is in this good rooting soil that is 1 part sand, 1 part woodshavings(un-bleached), and 2 parts cutting starter. Is this good for rooting them, sorry can't post pics. computer isn't working right... and if so, how long would it take them to root? I have rooted many other Myrtaceae species easily in about 3-5 weeks and about 2 died for every 11 that rooted. Probably going to use them as rootstock for cabelluda as they can't hold much fruit. Tropical Fruit Discussion / Tropical Fruit Tree Poll
« on: April 05, 2013, 11:09:58 PM »
Hey everyone, this is a poll to see what people think the peskiest tree is to grow in even a tropical climate, will be judged on Disease Resistance, Wind Resistance, Flood Resistance, 80% or higher humidity, 65% or Higher Temperatures, and Pest Resistance. Thank-you for your time, Regards-PM

Hey everyone, I have done a deep search on Annona Acuminata and have found out... nothing, so does anyone have experience with this plant and know if it is a fast or slow grower, if it has a tasty fruit and if it is cold hardy? Thank- you for your time, Regards-PM

Hey everyone, I was on the Pine Island Nursery website and I just saw that they got all of this new stuff in stock such as the Mammea Apple which I love and I was thinking of ordering one, but the question is has anyone ever fruited it here in SoCal or Cali? Thank-you, Regards-PM

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Kokum( Garcinia Indica): Climate needed
« on: March 27, 2013, 09:14:34 PM »
Hey everyone, I love mangosteen but it will absolutely not grow here in SB because of the lack of humidity and average 55-70 degree temperatures, so while I was on Oscars seed website, I learned about Kokum! It looks like a mini mangosteen with the inside segments discolored a bit. Would it grow where I live, I have already researched everywhere and there are plenty of cool facts about it but nothing if not slightly anything about the climate needed for its flourishing and fruiting. I also checked CRFG and Oscars website but nothing... so does anyone know about the climate? Thank-you for your time, Regards-PM

Hello everyone, would like to get some Sal. Wallachiana seeds as they are one of the hardiest of the Salak family and given 4-8 yrs. may fruit in zone 9b with low humidity(50%-75%), so does anyone currently have seeds or know of a good source? Thank-you, PM

22
Hello everyone, I love Salak and wish to grow it but sadly where I live the humidity is only around 50% when it needs to be about 80% and above, so does anyone know of some sort of fruiting Salacca species that I would be able to grow and fruit(outside) in SB? And if there Is a species does anyone know where I can get seeds or a plant? Thank-you for your time, regards-PM

Hey everyone, every time that I order seeds from Trade-Winds, They don't sprout for about 3-6 months and then I check on them and they have these revolting pulsating worms gobbling down the inside of the side until it is just a mushy shell. This happens with every single one of my orders from Trade-Winds, anyone else had the same problem. The other reason I find this strange is that I was using just opened Sterile Seed Starter and I didn't overwater the seeds, just gave them the amount given on the package, and the seeds were Actindia Arguta, Rollinia Deliciosa, Actindia deliciosa, Annona Purperea, Annona Cherimola, Averrhoa Carombola, Monstera Deliciosa, Annona Senegalensis, Raimondia sp., and Couroupita Nicaraugensis. All the seeds had different worms but they did the same thing, ordered a seed sand-which and ate up like it was there last meal. Regards-PM

Recipes / Allspice and cinnamon leaf Halibut
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:24:05 PM »
Hey everyone, just experimented with my cinnamon tree and the allspice with fresh halibut and it was 100% certified delicious. It was sauteed in a sauce of allspice, bay rum, cinnamon, rice vinegar, and a tad of ponzu. Don't know the exact measurements because as I stated before that I just experimented with this recipe, it did have to be sauteed for 5 hrs. Regards-PM

Hey everyone, in a recent post of mine asking about some trees I was told that Green Sapote would be a little hardier than the mamay but I already have a large mamey thats in the ground so I can't sell it. Instead I wish to purchase a Green Sapote tree to go along with the Mamey. So anybody know of a registered nursery in SoCal that sell 5 gal. or bigger for a good price?- regards- PM
