Thanks. That looks right. Except that the ones here don't have the veil over the cap.

Nice mushroom, we have a pretty good stinkhorn too, but not as colorful.  Ours is more creamy white but still impressive.

Did not notice any smell at all on the from the mushrooms here. Maybe i just didn't get them at right stage? Supposed to attract flies to help distribute the spores.

Sometimes we can smell them from a distance but to really appreciate them grab a leaf and gently rub it over the mushroom, have a smell!

These are supposedly edible in the egg stage before the spores turn dark. Cut them up and pan fry them and you'll get something like bacon. I've not found any to try for myself. Anyone that tried please tell me if I'm right or wrong.

I've got Phallus indusiatus at my place which looks very similar. In doing some research I found articles about them being cultivated commercially and sold for consumption. Photos of the dried fungus that was being sold looked like the mature fungus, not the immature "egg" stage. I've never tried cooking any, I'm not the adventurous type. Hoping to live a long healthy life.

They've always been at my place but a few years back I laid down a big area of wood chip (African Mahogany). Last year this fungus started coming up in the wood chip by the thousands. But the smell wasn't strong. You had to get quite close for it to be noticeable. This wet season (now) only the odd ones have been coming up. Seems they like the wood chip at a particular stage of decomposition.

Yup, the fruiting bodies are what's normally sold dried and then have to be reconstituted to be stir fried with other stuff. The brown spore part is normally removed as they're harvested. The egg stage has to be consumed in time so they'll never be sold in stores.
