Tropical Fruit Discussion / Kocide rates for mangos
« on: December 29, 2019, 04:47:53 PM »
What mix rates are people using on mangos with Kocide 3000?  Tablespoons per gallon? In and out of flowering? With a sticker?

Any advice is appreciated.

Brix in the 20's?  That sounds disappointing.  Where were all of those SoCal mangoes pushing 40 that were reported before?

Someone should contact Guinness World Records!

Easy solution.

Just top work the HK over to everyone's favorite Pickering.

Problem solved!

Those trees look like they are ready for phomopsis.

Seriously?

Do you know how big lychee trees get, much less mango trees?

He's got a lychee off to the left right up against his screened porch perhaps 15 feet away, and another mango behind the PP - maybe 10 feet away.

Keep your loppers sharpened!

Someone has access to Butterscotch wood?

How is that possible?

I've heard its only been released recently and that the plants at ZHPP for sale (wholesale only) are tiny.

If someone has an established Butterscotch sap I'd be interested in seeing pictures, getting a fruit report etc.

FYI

Coconut Cream is a patented mango. All applicable patent laws apply, and asexual propagation is prohibited.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best MBBS resistant varieties
« on: May 24, 2019, 01:20:35 AM »
So both flavor and MBBS resistance are mainly a function of climate and weather with no role for variety?  That seems like nonsense.

Walter Zill had his LZ get hammered with MBBS while other varieties are relatively unscathed in the exact same climate. ZHPP stopped propagating LZ because it is so disease prone.

And you can imagine circumstances whereby Tommy Atkins is going to taste better than Sweet Tart?

Like all other living things, mango varieties have genetic factors that influence characteristics - in this case flavor, production and disease resistance.

I believe Cookie Jeff and Alex Squam may have some specific insights in this matter.  Any notions about which top varieties show the best MBBS resistance? Which besides LZ the worst?

What are the best MBBS resistant mango varieties, listed in order of resistance.

Please include overall fruit quality, flavor and production in the criteria as possible.

All input is appreciated.

It's not Queen.

Skin too smooth, and wrong shape and color.  Queen is rougher skinned, longer and pear shaped, and has a slight tint of red/purple.

Wrong shape for Sir prize.

There is no evidence that organic practices improve the quality of produce.

Well, except for the type of junk-science propaganda seen below - probably funded by George Soros and the granola crowd.
