Title: Cherimoya Into Growth Flush and Bloom, Fertilize?
Post by: behlgarden on May 24, 2012, 05:58:35 PM
My Mature Cherimoya that has about 18"diameter trunk is in full growth mode pushing for new growth and blooms. I was reading about fertilizing and I read this

"According to the National Garden Association, fertilize mature cherimoyas at a rate of 4 ounces of nitrogen for every 1 inch the trunk is in diameter"

This means that I need to put 72 ounces of Nitrogen per year. that is 4.5 lb/yr, or 1.1 lb/application if I apply as recommended every three months. The question now is that they say best is to apply balanced fertilizer, NPK, given this scanerio, I will need to apply 3.3 lb/application every 3 months. That is heck of a fertilizer.

Just wondering what other folks are doing for feeding their mature fruiting trees. I dont want to over fertilize and kill the tree.

When its in growth flush and blooming, should I fertilize now?
