Jabo deficiency
« on: March 06, 2020, 05:05:34 AM »

The deficiency of which element could be causing my Jabo leaves to become yellow?

Iron .There are good foliar fertilisers wich contain chelated iron and manny otther elements.
Measure the soil ph because if its high, then the iron becomes non available.

Thank you.But this does not look like Fe deficiency. It looks more like vein clearance, the veins are yellow. Normally vein clearance is caused by a virus infection. Is it common in jaboticabas? Please, will the experts help?

I have been trying to raise jabos for a few years and I have had issues
with adding to much compost and earth worms in the pots. I watched some
good videos made by FFF and greendreams this past year and it mentioned repotting the trees
and using an acidic soil. I did this and started using Epsoma hollytone fertilizer
and my trees are looking the best ever. I also recently tried adding some humic
acid drench to the soil and almost immediately saw strong flushes from several trees.
It's still early in the season but I am very optimistic. I had a couple grimals and a
coronata var restinga that were not doing much last year and since I repotted
and applied the holly tone fertilizer they started shedding their bark and flushing
new growth. I also have a couple sabaras in the ground that look the best ever.
Today I foliar sprayed with Southern Ag.

What regimen are you using?

im not an expert on Jabo's
but in general , often i see either yellow leaves, or veins, and its usually caused by
too much or too little water, PH is wrong, or too much other nutrients.
too little magnesium can cause yellowing, but too much can cause lockout of other elements as well.

Yellow-vein chlorosis is usually (not always) indicative of nitrogen deficiency.
The difficulty is figuring out why your plant isn't taking up nitrogen.

With many other species, when I see yellow veins closely adjoined by narrow, dark-green strips, I say that there is deficiency in Manganese.  I am not at all sure that your pictures look typical for that;  also it would be rare to have Manganese deficiency at such very low pH.

You might try to apply some Calcium Sulfate, as Calcium deficiency can produce strange yellowing patterns and unthrifty growth.  Sulfur deficiency also causes yellowing.

Can you recommend a better quality, more accurate soil ph meter?

Yea,the ones with glass electrode also made in China but they are more expensive @ 10 dollars on Ebay.
I used a heated knife blade to cut the plastic around the glass electrode so that it can make contact with the soil better( the ph meter its normally used for liquids).
Yellow electronic ph meter with glass electrode from Ebay.
You have to calibrate it but you get all the instructions and even a small screwdriver in the pack.
