first homegrown mango when is it ripe ? Florigon

So, i finally have my first mango
i grudgingly pruned off most of the flowers a couple of months ago
i left 2 small fruit.
1 stayed very small, and it was aborted/dropped by the tree.
the other looks fine.

do i wait till its soft ?
when do i pick it ?
the pics are about 2 weeks old.
the tree seems healthy and just put out more growth.

Would like to see better pictures of the fruit,  From that picture it does not look like a Florigon.

As to an actual Florigon, you want some true yellow coloration showing (not "sunburn") before harvesting.

almost forgot about the "shoulder" ?
so, i dont want to pick it until it is ripe, or, soft ?
i see one very small hole some insect tried to gain access, but looks like he failed.
i dont get a lot of problems with insects or birds.

Is that a grafted tree?  That is not a Florigon.

no its from seed.
cant remember who i got it from, someone in Florida i remember on a trade
but forgot which forum... LOL

i have memory pills for that
but, i forget to take them...

If its from seed, it is a "seedling of Florigon" (not a Florigon) and you will be the first to know what it is like and how good it is.  I would wait for some color to show ands then post pictures.

so it colored in
it was just a bit soft, i was going to wait till tomorrow
but, it came off in my hand.

had a great flavor, small note of citrus
a little tangy, but not overly.
POLY seed was small, but not flat at all.

i read Florigon is supposed to be early.
if it just ripened, im guessing Florigon is NOT the father.

Since that is not a Florigon,  you cznt make any parallel conclusions and comparisons to Florigon.   In addition,  you are not in a mango growing region, specifically Florida,  where its an early season mango.

So you are saying it could be a Florigon seedling ?

It could be, but if it was Florigon, they do not grow true to seed as they are mono (I believe). Thus, you have your own unique variety that is entirely new with all new taste, growth habit, etc.

Just looked and Florigon appears to be poly, but it appears yours did not grow true thus you still have a unique variety on your hands

Wow. What are you going to call your new variety? I have a few poly seedlings growing but I was just going to use them as rootstock, maybe I'll keep a few now.

maybe Louigon ?
its Florigon, but a Louisiana variety... LOL

I cant believe what i did.
the 1 fruit i had for it this year i ate last week
and the seed went into a batch with 6 other seeds i had...
Ataulfo and Keitts from the store...
All were planted in containers, so i dont know which one is which...
i do remember it being a poly though.

it did taste rather good, and if i can get several generations of fruiting trees
i might have a real Louisiana mango.
