Thank you for Info.
Funny thing is, that place is about 200m away from my work place. Adriano, if you need hints on the opening days drop me a line, in fact the villa isn't opened every day of the year. So be sure to check in advance.

is it open on 12. of june? I should be passing by Florence at about 12-14 h.

Unfortunately not.
4-7-11-12-14-19-20-21-25-27 June 2019 will be closed. All the other days it should be open. Last entrance at 18.

I tried to give them same conditions as to those in ground trees in Dalmatia, but no effect. I think the problem is in oversized pots. The moisture is filling the parts which are not rooted. The tree in smaller pot is doing better. Those in 100 liter terracota pots are not doing good.

some of my citrus overwintered in semi dark (garage) without problems, but those placed on the balcony facing south (closed behind removable glass which is more often open than closed) lost most of the leaves.
This happens every year and i just do not know why. They have more air and light than those in garage and bigger pots.

I did not know either about this during my visit to Florence.  I hope to visit the garden next month.

odd to see leafminer that far north. We do not have them here in the continent in potted trees. They are regular on the med coast in late spring.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Meyer lemon, why?
« on: May 06, 2019, 02:33:22 AM »
you are right. Still, meyer produces every year. Sometimes other lemons produce less if the winter was colder than usual.
Meyer is cold resistant, brings a lots of fruits, tree looks beautiful. taste is sweeter than in usuall lemon which is big disantvontage. On the other hand, no other lemon sort brings so much fruits

No other lemon fruits as much?  Come on, every lemon tree around here is loaded beyond being usable.  Ive got a verigated pink lemon that produces so many lemons I thin 90% of them off and still cant use all the remaining lemons.

couple of photos dating start of march

star ruby. Not ripe yet.

feminelo, more useful as decoration than being fruitful. Meyer is far more useful in my opinion.

Thanks everyone. I learned my lesson with price of 2 dying trees.

Why is it not recommendable to grow young trees in big pots. I have made mistake with my trees, when couple of years ago i planted them in to oversized pots. Now the are losing leaves and not looking good. I thought trees would like to have more space to grow roots. Those, recently planted in smaller pots are doing great.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Just brought them back outside
« on: April 10, 2018, 05:39:42 AM »
I opened balcony last week.  Also brought 2 of them from garage outside on other location. Those in Dalmatia which are planted in ground had some difficult time in late february. No freezing temperatures for whole of winter, but then Temperature dropped to -2,-3.  The freeze damaged the flowers and new leafes, because by then all trees were blooming.

Could watering with warm water help?

Snek: after i read the link Millet sent, i think problem could be cool roots which brings drought as result. However, healthy green leaves fall down. it does not look like drought simptom.
raggashack: maybe there is something to it. My orange in smallest container (still 70 liter size) loses less leaves than other 2 citrus in bigger containers.

Thanks for the link

I do not have soil thermometer , but soil temperature is lower. I have thermocamera on mobile phone and temp. difference is visible. Foliage do receive direct sunlight,  containers not because of the fence.

I am doing something wrong, but i do not know what. I closed the balcony with so called finnish glass, planted them in huge terakota containers, water them only with stayed or boiled water, only organic fertilizer.  last year i was happy to see them surviving winter untouched, only to see them losing all the leaves in spring and summer.
