Just picked a nice rollinia/biriba (yesterday). Have yet to try fruit from this tree. Have eaten what I think was frozen rollinia before, and it was good. Excited to finally try fresh, and get an idea if the fruit I'm growing is any good.

Does rollinia need to be totally yellow to eat? Picked on yesterday, and it is almost completely yellow with a few green streaks remaining. Should I wait till all yellow?

Nice! I would wait until it is fully yellow. I have tried a couple with similar coloring and they tasted green. Winter fruit from my trees are generally not as good as summer fruit and can be bland.

Thanks Brandon. The fruit was good, but yeah, a little bland. Definitely worth eating. It was a bit snotty in places, so my daughter and I ate a bit and froze the rest for smoothies.

Have another nearly ripe fruit on the tree, still a few flowers, and several small fruits that recently set. Seems to be pollinating better now. I did not do any hand pollination on the recent fruits/flowers.

Best to eat them before they get fully yellow (similar to your second picture rather than the one I quoted). They have a more complex flavor and not nearly as "snotty".

Thanks for the advice dwfl. There are a few small fruit on the tree, and another round of flowers popping up. Need to try some more hand pollination. Can't wait to sample more fruit!

Thank you for the kind words Lionking. It's funny, because our soil is thin and rocky, lots of limestone. When I plant trees, always add a mix of garden soil and amendments, but it is hard to make a decent sized hole. Sometimes I pay my landscaper to bust it up with his pick axe. Aint easy shoveling rocks. Feel fortunate that most everything grows as well as it does. Abiu and araza are the only ones that have really struggled.

My mango bowl nearly floweth over... Have harvested about 70 now. 3rd season this tree has produced, and still a bit more fruit on the tree. Last one was 15 oz.

I thought the squirrels were getting smart to the mangoes lately, and then spotted a large giant Cuban Knight anole in the tree. Does anyone know of these lizards eating mangoes? I've heard of them eating annona flowers, and one likes to chill in the rollinia tree. Makes me nervous. Close inspection of the bites on this mango, looks to be a one toothed squirrel in some places. Or could it be the snout marks of a mango lovin' lizard?

Rollinia

Unfortunately, this one was browning near the skin, and the flavor was a little off. Was able to eat some of it.

This one tasted great! Nice vanilla lemon flavor; sweet with a little sour. Best one yet.

Pink Barbie guava. 1st fruit, only one on tree (7gal). Something wasn't right with it, mushy and browning on the inside. Disappointing, but was able to taste some of its potential.

Luc's garcinia. Planted in ground a couple of months ago. Gets a bit of shade.

purple mangosteen. Going to dig a deep hole and fill with more acidic soil. Then will make a large root builder pot, and place the current two pots on top. Idea is to build a mound of suitable soil, as my yard dirt is not ideal for mangosteen.

Passion fruit

Curry tree fruited at the beginning of summer

Hi Rob, is yours a grafted or seedling star apple? I have a seedling about 4 years old but no idea how long it may take to flower.

Hey Canvo. It was listed as a grafted Corrongo caimito from Top Tropicals. As such, who knows if it is actually grafted or of specified variety.

Bought as a 3 gal, and planted in ground 2.5 years ago. It's over 10 feet tall now.

Hello All. Time to share some updates from the garden...

Guanabana, covered in flowers and setting fruit.

Guanabana flowers. Question: My guess is that hand pollination of guanabana is done after the outer flower shell drops, as in the 2nd and 3rd pics below. Is this correct?

Corrongo Caimito

Caimito tree's first fruit. Over a dozen fruits are growing nicely, perhaps much more. Hard to tell how many.

Lemon Drop Mangosteen

Achachairu

Seashore Mangosteen

Luc's Garcinia. She's small, but know's karate!

Purple Mangosteen. Diggin a 3+ feet deep by 4 feet wide hole next week, and will perhaps line the hole and fill with soil that is not alkaline. Going to build a mound on top and support with Root Saver pot panels attached to each other. My hope is to overcome the limestone soil issues that purple mangosteen suffer.  Any critiques, advice, or additional ideas?

Silas Woods sap. Lots of fruit currently growing, one almost ripe. Checking daily.

Passion Vine Alley. 5 vines intermingled. Not even sure which fruit is from which vine.

Curry Tree

Jak seedling, with grafts of pineapple jak, red, and gold excalibur.

Mystery plant, what is this? Not sure if it is a fruit tree or just a hitchhiker. Any ideas?

Seedling from Red Lady. Packed!

Denizen of the garden, devourer of hibiscus

Ponderosa Lemon. This one's only just over a pound

Mmmmmaracuya

Today's harvest

Thanks Mugenia!

Found some plants shooting up out of a pot. Obviously something I planted. Cannot figure what they are.

Anyone know what these might be?

Beautiful pictures!  Those look like baby Maho trees.

Thanks and Thanks Tang Tonic!

A type of hibiscus sounds about right, as I have planted some different hibiscus seeds in the past. Wondered if they were some kind of beans as well.

Found this Grimal scion shooting sprouts this morning. Grafted 10/26 on an unknown in-ground jabo that's 8 - 9 feet. All of the grafts look promising with some swelling buds, but only noticed new growth on this one.
