And my plants *never* go outside, so it's even easier
Ah come on Karen, take 'em for a walk in the park once in a while.
Okay, okay, I do do that occasionally
But not in winter!
I'm thinking about getting some stick-on googly-eyes to personify some of my plants and doing a surrealist "combination Reykjavík/exotic plants photo shoot" after it warms up again, for a blog for another site (and possibly the Reykjavík Grapevine if they're in the mood for something bizarre). "This is Marang visiting Hallgrímskirkja. Hallgrímskirkja is a 73-meter church that dominates the Reykjavík skyline. Begun in 1945 and not finished until 1986, its columnar shape is designed to be reminiscent of Iceland's abundant columnar basalt. Marang (Artocarpus odoratissimus) is a Bornean relative of jackfruit that produces large green fruits with creamy white arils and an aromatic rind. It is often considered to be among the best of the artocarpus. ** This is Chupa-Chupa sitting on top of the statue of Leifr Eiríksson..." etc.
Too bad there's really no good way to haul around my biggest tropicals - for example, I think a 3-meter banana tree would make quite a splash downtown
It'd be fun to set it next to the large plush polar bears on Laugavegur for some nice cognitive dissonance.
And hey, stop sending your cold weather east to us! It's supposed to get down to -13 (9F) in Reykjavík and -20 (4F) at Hellsheiði and Þingvellir (right nearby) by Friday. :Þ Our average *January* low in Reykjavík is only -2,4 (28F).
