Black dots on fruit
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:41:26 PM »
All of the fruit on my persian/bearss lime have small black dots on the rind.  None of my other trees have this and they're all in the same area.  I assume it is just insect damage but I don't see any insects at the moment.  Any idea what it might be?  Looks very minor but I'm worried it could be fungal or bacterial infection.

Keep in mind I'm in Pennsylvania so most citrus pests aren't around.

Brian, have you sprayed the tree with anything lately? - Millet

Is this tree outside? Cause my trees get tons of pot marks like that and i'm pretty sure its from birds pecking at the fruits and eating the rind for some reason

It may have been sprayed with foliar fert (diluted Jacks HPF) or hort oil.  I haven't been keeping track of which trees get sprayed, I've only been doing it as necessary.

Yes, all trees are outside until winter.  I get bug marks on all of my non-citrus fruit but this is the first time I've seen it on citrus as there are few citrus pests this far north.

Then the birds are most likely pecking at your fruit

Hmm, guess not much to worry about then, thanks.  I guess birds only like lime :)
