glad its looking well after winter though!

im definitely having issue with my small Keitt continualy flowering and not growing. Going to start some seedlings this year and graft when they reach a decent size to prevent this.  Guess there's not short cuts without spending a grip of money pn a box size tree

There is keep snapping the panicle and have a lot of patience. Don’t give up on turpentine rootstock they just take a little longer

Here are (5) photos taken over this last weekend. We are probably two months behind south Florida in terms of flowering but of course, they had a very warm 2019 winter so I assume flowering is way down the further south you go.

All of the noted trees I have been grafted to Manila rootstock except Val-Carrie which is on Turpentine. These Trees have been in the ground on average about 2.5 years. Just for something different the last photo is of my eight-year-old Beaumont Macadamia Tree in Bloom.

Hey All,

Update on my plants and I really need some help or advice for an issue I have going on.

Trees have set fruit and I'm hopeful to get some fruit off of them this year.

My 8' tall Valencia Pride has a good amount of tiny fruits and I'm hoping to get maybe a dozen off of it. Last year it held two fruit to about the size of my fist but after our 116 degree day here in Riverside the fruit shriveled and dropped.

my small Keiit has put on a lot of fruit and they are starting to get good sized. I picked the fruit off the past couple years but I think I'm going to just let it do what it wants this year.

This is where I'm running into some problems. My Lancetilla was one of my healthiest problem free trees except it wanting to droop. This year it flowered real heavy and set fruit. I came out and saw one day it wasn't looking too hot and the soil seemed a little dry. so i watered it. It wasn't looking too great before I left and when I came back after a 5 day absence it looks like it is toast. Foilage all brown and black spots everywhere. What is this?

Is this fungal or bacterial? I moved it further away from my healthy trees. SHould I give up on it or spray with copper, sulfur or micro nutrients?

It seems to have spread to the Hayden that was right next to it which I moved urther away as well. However this Hayden has been nothing but trouble and sickly from the beginning.

Hope SoCal People can help me ID this. Thanks

Without genetic testing, I can only guess what it is. That looks like typical die back from Phomopsis. Phomopsis is one of the major fungal issues we have for Mangos. One of my friends sent tissue samples in for testing and the test came back as Phomopsis and another fungus I can’t recall right now.

Members from SoCal spoke with Dr Ledesma and Dr Campbell and they suggested giving our trees additional Manganese.

For Mango growers in SoCal, you should begin spraying your trees for fungus around late Fall into Winter.

Thanks Simon,

Should I just cut these down and remove them from my property is there a curative regimen I could put them on? Not sure if it's worth trying something top keep them alive

They look like goners to me. I would use copper and alternate it with Sulfur or some sort of orchard type spray that has a Fungicide in it. By alternating with different types of fungicides, you kill more of the organisms and prevent them from building resistance.

Be careful when you use Sulfur because it can burn your plants above a certain temperature so make sure you follow the manufacturers instructions.

Hi Simon,

Your friend's mango trees look so green and healthy.  Are those trees protected over the winter or exposed?

Simon - Approximately how old are many of the larger trees in the photos?

Thanks!

Im surprised how my LZ is performing well, despite not being prolific here.

I intend to let LZ hold fruits as much as it wants. I also intend to stunt it -- life's short.

My friends trees are unprotected. I’ll have to ask him how old his larger trees are.

Gozp, LZ is an excellent grower here, even on Florida rootstock. Letting it hold fruit should be fine because it often gets infected with Powdery Mildew and drops the fruit anyways.

I use Dr Yanemotos approach and once a tree is established, I allow it to ripen one fruit for every 40-80 leaves on the tree which I just average to about 60 leaves per fruit. This factors in that Mangos grow slower here and dwarf varieties will need more leaves.
