Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Ilama seeds for sale
« on: July 17, 2019, 12:26:23 AM »
I have Annona diversifolia seeds for sale. They are from the "Guillermo" cultivar I believe. The tree produces 50 to 100 fruits a year, some larger than a grapefruit or softball. Price is $1.5 per seed with a minimum order of 10 seeds. Email me if you are interested.
This is an old picture but the fruit is from the same tree.

Hi, Koryph

Are seeds available from this tree again?

Thanks

Jajajja! “cuentos chinos”

I haven’t been through Ciales yet. I will have to check it out.

When I first moved to Vieques I was shown an anòn tree that many swore was a pink/red flesh fruit. Long story shortened it wasn’t  and they had great fun at a gringos expense. Lesson learned, Cabrones!

Thank you, Alex

Perhaps someone has a grafted Piña but an issue in PR is that there is no widespread recognition of specific grafted types and any seedling mango from any type is referred to in a general name from any seedling producing fruit that looks similar. Ex, Grefe, Masa, Rosita, Zapatito, Cigarillo, Alcamphor, Juevo del Toro (which is a name also given to avocados of a certain appearance and also gets lumped together with Cipre mango), Manzana, etc. There are also variations of these names which people will
swear is the “real” name and so forth. I’m always in doubt about a specific type when someone says they have “the” grafted type for sale. Here it could literally be anything or something only similar. Good luck on your search 🌴.

Bob, do you plant the germinated seedling in full sun?

I planted them in one gallon pots in an area that received full sun from 1pm to sunset. They have been in full sun from dawn till dusk after reaching 10” in height. They do not like to be in constantly wet soil and can take a completely dry pot for a few days intermittently. On my farm those planted in ground went without water for six days during our current drought and still pushed new leaves. The reticulatas, glabras, muricatas and squamosas showed signs of  stress. The glabras and muricatas dried up halfway, losing half the plants. The reticulatas had dry leaves that came back after watering. The squamosas had slightly dry leaves.

As luck would have it, I have a second seedling tree that has decided to flower. No fruit yet but the flowers are setting. This is from a different batch of seeds of Vieques type muricata.

Here are some of Raul’s from the same period. I planted them right away and they are doing well. I had good germination. The drought has been tough on them. I have many more but these are the biggest.

Looking good!! What’s your fertilizer schedule been like after you germinated it until now?

I add a handful of Espoma plant tone and a spoonful of azomite every few months. I mix azomite and espoma in the soil mix to germinate the seeds. The amount in the soil mix for germinating can vary depending on what is available for purchase. I don’t think that has enhanced the tree to fruit early as all my others guanabnas  get the exact same fertilizer schedule.

Nice performance. How tall it is? Did you fertilize it heavily to reach this result?

It is close to five feet tall.

This tree has received the same soil mix, espoma fertilizer and azomite like all my trees.

Has anyone here at TFF grown my Annona Reticulata   from seeds and cuttings that I have been spreading around for the last few years?

They are growing but no fruit yet.

It is better to grow this on pot or on the ground? I'm afraid to loose it during the winter... Thank's!

It is easier to control in a pot.

There are a lot of sources saying Ivy Gourd is invasive in places like Hawaii and India, but none say anything about mediterranean climates. Does anyone have experience with them in a Mediterranean climate?

Here's the most reliable resource about invasive species I use: https://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/14659
Since coccinia grandis prefers tropical rainforest climate, I guess that's the reason why you can't find any info about it in mediterranean climates. Way too dry.

Coccinia grandis can handle extreme dry. They will be difficult to control without vigilance. I left some in pots without water for almost a year. They did not perish and grew rapidly once watered. We have sharp dry seasons here in Vieques, probably much like the Mediterranean.
