We have Calypso mango in Dubai. It's not a bad mango, but it's a little bland. Possibly pick too early.

I just rolled mine like the commercial farms. They grow like weeds in southern California.

Isn't this the same variety like the Vietnamese 034?

That's suck ass. This is why I want to move out of the people's social republic of California to rural southern Florida.

Good thing I live in a super quiet neighborhood surrounded by old folkies.

I have 2 haysa and 2 Alano sapodillas planted in a row. I will find out if they will cross- pollinate in about a year or two.

Cool. I bought your SD yellow and Asian black sugarcane from you via Spaugh. They are lemongrass-size now. Can't wait to juice them next year.

Juiced some California yellow and Florida red heirloom sugarcanes on Monday. It's good. You're right about those motorized juicers. Those red Florida heirloom sugarcanes are massive cane. I had to cut them into quarters in order to feed them through the juicer.

I am also curious about this Gigantea Sapodilla. Top Tropical sells them, but I am not sure if I trust them.

Shamus,

Thank you for the information!

Andrew, just get both!

Too bad its rare to find fresh Sapodilla fruit in the markets here. There is a strong demand for them.

Samu, nice looking tree. That’s good to know about the Hasya.

If anyone knows where I can get a Gigantea Sapodilla, please pm me. I don’t even know what it tastes like or if it’s productive, I assume not with such a large fruit, but it would be nice as a conversation piece for Sapodilla lovers. I’d love to get a Sapodilla that’s as big as a mamey sapote.

Simon

Simon et Al,

Is the Haysa sapodilla any good in southern California? People say it's more vigorous. I have two trees that I planted this spring. I also have two Alano trees that were planted one and two years ago. The two years old is flowering right now.

Here's my row of sapodillas. Still have room for 6 more. Thanks.

No, you're good. We're here to learn and share experience.

I have the same problem with a sweetheart
Only my tree hasn't flushed in 2 1/2 years?
I cut 10 mangos off it the past 2 years so it would grow and it's not even 3 feet
and won't flush??? I would guess your two trees are developing roots now?
That sounds very suspicious. I have 10 of this variety (Sweet Tart) and they are among the more vigorous upright growers, as mentioned previously by others.
One year has seen 4-5 flushes and growth above 4 feet from a 3 gallon. Tall enough I harvested scions. Maybe there is a defect in the root system?
Is there certain rootstock that can cause this?
Maybe I should grow up some turpentine seedlings and graft onto it some of these scions.
It is a puny tree and sets ten fruit 2 years in a row? It is 15-20 feet from an oak. Maybe I should move it?
Sorry mugenia if I stole your post, I think someone answered your issue as far as temps?
If you want me to start a new post I will?

Southern California Mango Expert,

How comes my lemon meringue and Glenn mango tree are not flushing? Both were planted in March. Thank you.

Mine is doing the same thing too. It's probably dead.

I concur. My place has a lot of mosquitoes now. It's weird to have them here since it's dry and arid.

Become acclimated and dress with evaporative clothing, take breaks for cooling and hydration this chart helps monitor hydration.
It took me about seven years to become truly acclimated after moving from California.  I know people who didn't wait that long and left.  Also, there were no mosquitoes in L.A.!

There is mosquitoes now and it's all year around.  Nasty lil ankle biters that hits and comes back for more!

Nice! Cool.  My only 🥭 tree, VP, is flowering like crazy too. Looks like you have a big yard. How big is your yard?

46
That's nice. Man, where do you get all of these huge leave trees from?

Nice. My dad also has small Ficus auriculata tree. The fruit and leaves are edible.

The fruits (figs) are tough if raw, but the inside layer, when ripe is sweet and honey-like.

Here is another ficus I grow, Ficus dammaropsis. Also with edible fruits and leaves.

I was in Heidelberg last fall. I was surprised to see banana and palm (Mediterranean or Palmetto type) trees. There's a lot of nice residential gardens along the Philosophenweg. There's a nice banana and other tropical herbaceous bush right in front of the statue of Theodore Bunsen.

That said, you possibly can grow some tropical plants. Good luck.

Very nice. I am also planting my garden in that similar fashion. That "Thai pepper plant" is actually Piper lolot or Piper sarmentosum.
