Title: CCPP budwood

First time order from CCPP.  I ordered 6 buds from CCPP and it arrived only 2 budwoods.  I don't know how ccpp work, is 6 buds = 6 budwoods or 6 buds in the budwood?  Can anyone answer my question?

I will try try rooting the budwoods tomorrow morning.

Ccpp normally sends per bud order. You put 1 in the number of buds you want and they usually send two budsticks with 6 buds each on them. One is round budwood and one is triangular budwood. Remember that you are ordering a budstick and you should get 6 budeyes. When I order I pay 2.50 per budeye as I am non California. The pic you posted looks right. If you ordered 6 budeyes. You actually got 12 or more.

I thought order 6 buds mean 6 sticks.  Look like I got a good deal from CCPP.  Ordered 6 buds get over 12 buds.    ;D

Are you sure? Satsumas are very hard to root.

Like Sylvain wrote, it is difficult to root satsumas.  If you want to try your luck rooting them, it would be a good idea to first take a bud or two and graft it first, then try rooting.

I don't have a good rootstock right now so I go ahead to root them in the pots.  Wish me luck. 

If all failed, I will order more to graft.
What is a good rootstock for satsuma?

Trifoliata or swingle is great for satsuma. You are going to want to put plastic bags over the sticks you're trying to root, but I doubt they will root.

Thx Laaz,  is trifoliate easy to root?  I saw some sucker from blood orange tree start to grow.  I can root that for my rootstock if it is easier to root.

Take a few buds of what you got from CCPP and bud them to
a citrus tree you buy at the local nursery. Then you won't have to
re-order when the rooted cuttings fail.

Thanks for the advice.  Next time, I need to find rootstock.  I don't want to mess with my current trees.

I don't want to discourage you, but the way you try to root satsuma is a definite fail.
You don't use big pots to root cuttings they will root rot your sticks. Also the soil mixture is not appropriate.
Satsumas can be rooted with a very good setup where you control temperature and mist them continuously plus the use of rooting hormone. They will take minimum 120 days to 150 days to root. Still after that the root system is weak.

Thanks for the heads up Iebmung.  It is really hard to root Satsuma from cutting.  I read an article that might help increase the success rate from fruitmentor.  Coconut coir, right temp, lighting and heating pad.  I don't have the those setting, but LA current temp is around 80 degree, cover them with a plastic bag to keep them moist, moist them every today, and rooting hormone.  Just want to try it.

I prefer to graft on a big tree. Take my time getting a good rootstock to graft later.

Graft on whatever tree you got.
Then air-layer later or graft to a good rootstock.

After a month, look like only kamquat is the only one surviving.  Satsuma and bleeding orange are gone.
